Emmy Rossum: 'I was naked for my fiance's proposal!'

Emmy Rossum was naked in the bath when her fiance Sam Esmail popped the question.

The Shameless actress got engaged to her writer/director boyfriend last August (15) after two years of dating. But as she appeared on Chelsea Handler's Netflix show, Emmy explained that the proposal wasn't the smoothest.

“I happened to be in the bathtub when it happened,” Emmy told Chelsea. “And then I realized that it was happening. And then I got out of the bathtub because I didn’t want the story to be that I was in the bathtub when it was happening. And then I got cold as it was still going on, got back in the bathtub.

"It was a comedy of errors, but it all worked out!"

Emmy appeared on Thursday's (24Nov16) episode of Chelsea's show, and added that she was more than a little surprised by Sam's proposal. However, she admitted she never had a "fairy tale" proposal scenario she wanted to become reality.

"I was more excited by the idea, the concept of marriage and togetherness with the person and unity,” she added.

Emmy and Sam hit headlines in July (16) when her Shameless co-star Shanola Hampton suggested her friend had secretly wed in a post on social media.

Shanola had taken to Twitter to celebrate the six Primetime Emmy nominations Sam's sci-fi series Mr. Robot had landed, but she appeared to let some news slip as she congratulated her pal's man.

"To the genius that is @samesmail," she began, "CONGRATS on marrying my girl @emmyrossum, oh and on SIX #EmmyNominations!"

Emmy did not comment directly on the marriage reference, but shared the message on her Twitter page and replied with a smiley face emoji.

Her coy post sparked reports the couple may have already become husband and wife, but Emmy returned to Twitter later on to clear up the claims.

After one fan asked if the news was true, she responded, "hahaha nope not yet!"

Emmy and Sam met when he directed the actress in 2014 romantic comedy/drama Comet.

The Phantom of the Opera star was previously married to music executive Justin Siegel, but they split in 2010 after almost two years together.
