British singer Ed Sheeran kicked off the first of his three sold-out gigs at Wembley Stadium in London with a surprise duet with pop legend Sir Elton John.

The pair teamed up on Friday night (10July15) to sing Elton's 1976 hit Don't Go Breaking My Heart, which he originally duetted on with Kiki Dee, and Sheeran's Afire Love, to the 80,000-strong crowd.

The Rocket Man owns the management company that The A Team hitmaker is linked to, and the duo has performed together before, most notably at the Grammy Awards in 2013.

Sir Elton's husband David Furnish posted a photograph of Friday's surprise duet on Instagram.com, adding "Well, that was a moment. Elton joins Ed Sheeran on stage at Wembley. Pure magic."
