Ed Sheeran heading to Bollywood

British pop star Ed Sheeran has secured his first Bollywood role after playing a gig in Mumbai, India.

The Lego House hitmaker played the sell-out concert on Sunday (01Mar15) before partying at the home of top Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan, where he met director Farah Khan, who offered him a part in Happy New Year 2, the sequel to 2014 Indian action comedy, Happy New Year.

Khan, who invited the star to the party, adds, "It was a surprise when my cousin Zubin called me from London to say that Ed Sheeran was going to be in town and wanted to meet up with me and my Bollywood friends. It was very gracious of Abhishek to let me bring Ed to his home. Not only did Ed hit it off with Abhishek, but before I left they both decided that Ed would act in Happy New Year 2."

Sheeran adds, "I would love to do something in Bollywood. I watched some movies (before my gig). Back home Bollywood has a huge presence."
