Demi Lovato fired up about Kesha's contract controversy
Demi Lovato has come to pop pal Kesha's defense after the Tik Tok singer lost her bid to get out of her Sony contract last week (19Feb16).
Kesha broke down in a Manhattan, New York court on Friday as a judge ruled she had to abide by the terms of her six-album deal.
The singer claimed label bosses have stalled her career by refusing
to allow her to work with any producer but hitmaker Dr. Luke, who
she has accused of drugging and sexually and emotionally abusing
her.
Fired up by the court decision in Kesha's legal battle, Demi took
to Twitter.com on Sunday (21Feb16) and wrote, "Frustrating to see
women come forward with their past only to be shot down, not
believed & disrespected for their bravery in taking action.
"Happens way too often. I'm ready for women to be taken just as
seriously as men. Someone tell me why anyone would ever feel brave
enough to come forward if they are most likely to be ignored or
called a liar?"
"I'm also ready for self-proclaimed feminists to start speaking out
or taking action for women's rights," the Heart Attack singer
added.
Demi isn't the only pop peer taking a stand following Kesha's loss
in court - Lily Allen and Lorde were among the stars who offered
the embattled singer their support via social media on Friday.
"standing with @KeshaRose through this traumatic, deeply unfair
time," Lorde wrote. "send good vibes her way everyone", while Brit
Lily added, "My thoughts are with @KeshaRose today. I'm sorry
you've had to endure this experience."
Lady Gaga echoed their sentiments and wrote, "There are people all
over the world who love you @KeshaRose. And I can say truly I am in
awe of your bravery."
Meanwhile, angry Halsey offered, "Disgusted by anyone in power
positions abusing their authority. My heart breaks for Kesha and
all people affected by this toxicity. F**k... I don't even know
what I would do... I only hope she can find peace and find a way to
continue to create express herself without fear."
There was also support from Alessia Cara and Wale.
