Chris Hemsworth raffles off red carpet date

Chris Hemsworth is offering one lucky fan the opportunity to be his date for the New York premiere of his new movie In The Heart Of The Sea.

The Thor star has teamed up with charity site IfOnly.com to encourage fans to donate at least $5 to his fundraising drive to be entered into the ballot.

The winner will be given the chance to accompany Chris to the screening in the Big Apple on 7 December (15), as well as attend the afterparty.

In the campaign video, Chris says, "You'll get two VIP passes to the film's premiere afterparty... We'll hang out, it'll be funny, we'll tell great stories, tell me what you thought of the film, hopefully it's positive. All of that for just $5. Five bucks, that's nothing, that's a cheeseburger, a milkshake or something."

The actor is holding the raffle to raise funds for the Australian Childhood Foundation.

"Despite having played a variety of characters over my career, no role is as important to me as being an ambassador to the Australian Childhood Foundation," he adds. "This amazing organisation works to make sure that all children are safe from trauma, abuse, violence and neglect. And the best part is each entry will help raise money for this incredible cause."

The charity has a close family connection for Chris as his parents previously worked with the organisation.

"My dad worked in child protection for many years," he tells E! Online. "When both my parents started working for the charity I was inspired by the work they were doing. My brothers and I were very fortunate to have a wonderful childhood but we were made aware that wasn't the case for all children. Knowing that, was what motivated me to want to help in any way I could."
