Carrie Underwood donates grant to girls' sports teams
Singer Carrie Underwood has teamed up with a sports retailer to donate $100,000 to help support female youth teams in Houston, Texas.
The Before He Cheats star launched her fashionable sportswear line Calia by Carrie Underwood in partnership with Dick's Sporting Goods stores in 2014, and she has now donated $100,000 on behalf of her line and the retail company's foundation as part of a grant named Sports Matter.
“I definitely hope that the donations that Dick’s Sporting Goods’
‘Sports Matter’ program and Calia get to make obviously impact the
girls that we are giving the money to immediately,” Carrie said,
according Extratv.com.
“I hope they get new equipment and they just get the things that
they need to be able to keep doing what they’re doing and love it
and get better and learn those life lessons and that they’ll carry
(it) with them for the rest of their lives.”
She hopes the donations, which were presented to female sports
teams in the Houston Aldine Independent School District, will
support athletic programs in the area and give girls the
opportunity to take part in sports activities.
“I also hope that other people will take notice and realize that
sports are important,” she added.
Through the Sports Matter initiative, they aim to donate a total of
$500,000 to female teams across the U.S. and they previously handed
out a grant in Carrie's hometown of Checotah in Oklahoma.
Carrie appeared at the opening of a new Houston branch of the
sports store on Monday (24Oct16) to present the check and take part
in a meet-and-greet. She also teamed up with her on-the-road
fitness trainer Eve Overland to lead a workout session.
Calia by Carrie Underwood expanded earlier this year (16) to
include swimwear.
