Brad Pitt: 'Jennifer Aniston marriage remarks were misconstrued'

Brad Pitt has backtracked on comments he made suggesting his marriage to Jennifer Aniston was dull, insisting his remarks were wrongly interpreted.

In a recent chat with Parade magazine, Pitt claimed that he wasn't living an "interesting life" before he met current partner Angeline Jolie, and stated that his "marriage had something to with it".

He added that he felt "pathetic" during that time in his life, because all he did was sit on the "couch, holding a joint, hiding out".

The interview caused an immediate buzz with the press, with Brad Pitt seemingly taking a swipe at his former love - but the actor is adamant his remarks about his marriage were misconstrued.

In the statement, he says, "It grieves me that this was interpreted this way. Jen is an incredibly giving, loving, and hilarious woman who remains my friend. It is an important relationship I value greatly. The point I was trying to make is not that Jen was dull, but that I was becoming dull to myself - and that, I am responsible for."

Brad Pitt has refrained from openly speaking about his marriage to the Friends beauty after they divorced in 2005.
