Blake Shelton: 'Gwen deserves to have a hit with break-up song'

Gwen Stefani's new boyfriend Blake Shelton is a big fan of her new heartbreak hit, Used To Love You, after pouring her soul into the track.

Blake, who has been there to pick up the pieces following Gwen's marriage split from rocker Gavin Rossdale, admits he was with the No Doubt singer when she came up with the idea for the song.

"I knew right when she wrote the song she was like, 'My gosh, I put exactly what I wanted to say into a song'," he tells news show Extra. "Sometimes it's hard to put it exactly how you want to say it when it's that personal to you, and so she was so excited that she got that out, and then it ends up being this smash song that it's turning into.

"She deserves it. If you go through whatever she went through to write that song, at least she's getting something good, positive out of it."

Gwen and Gavin split in August (15), amid unconfirmed reports of infidelity, and Gwen hit the studio in the weeks following the painful break-up to record the heartbreak song.

The Just a Girl singer performed the track on TV talent show The Voice on Monday night (30Nov15), prompting her new man to take to Twitter and salute her.

"Wow... @gwenstefani... Such an amazing performance," he wrote.

It was a perfect moment for Blake after a Thanksgiving break in Oklahoma, while Gwen was in Los Angeles with her kids. He admits he cooked the perfect turkey by mistake.

"I put a, I think it was an 18-pound turkey on," he explains. "I have one of those Traeger grills, it's a smoker, I put it on there at, like, eight o'clock at night with the intention of, before I went to bed, taking it off the smoker - and then the turkey being done (sic).

"I woke up the next morning, I walked out on my porch to urinate, because that's what you do in the country... and was like, 'What is that sound?' I realised the turkey had been on the smoker all night. But what turned out to be a normal morning of peeing on the porch ended up being the perfect Thanksgiving."
