Barry Manilow and Scarlett Johansson star in holiday charity campaign
Barry Manilow and Scarlett Johansson are starring in a comedy video campaign for the latest (RED) charity initiative ahead of World AIDS Day (01Dec15).
In the sketch, talk show host Jimmy Kimmel calls Manilow and asks him to write a jingle for the (RED) Shopathon campaign, and Manilow begins singing at the piano as the footage cuts to Johansson, who is singing and dancing to the lyrics he writes.
The actress sings, "Wouldn't you like to do something good? Just by
shopping, I'd bet that you would. Well now is your chance 'cos
starting today, your holiday dollars go a long, long way...
"And this blow-out sale is going to blow your mind. Conquer the
stress of holiday shopping, by helping stop AIDS, which really
needs stopping. Join the Red Shopathon, red Shopathon, shop Red,
save lives."
The Shopathon campaign launches on Tuesday (01Dec15) with a special
episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! dedicated to fundraising. Actress
Olivia Wilde will help the host parody home shopping channels with
celebrity guests including Bono, Johansson and The Killers.
Fans can also donate at least $10 on the Shopathon's Omaze.com page
to be in with a chance to win experiences with celebrities,
including a red carpet date with Meryl Streep, a make-up class with
Kim Kardashian, a portrait painting session taught by James Franco
and the opportunity to watch a football game with Matthew
McConaughey.
The (RED) charity was co-founded by Bono in 2006 to help raise
awareness of the global AIDS battle.
