Azealia Banks banned from Twitter after racist attack on Zayn Malik
Outspoken Azealia Banks' Twitter account has been suspended following her hate-filled attack on singer Zayn Malik on Wednesday (11May16).
The rapper took aim at the former One Direction star after he appeared to respond to her comments about the similarities between his new video and her Yung Rapunzel promo.
Her angry rant featured ill-advised racist jibes about Zayn's Asian
roots.
She then turned on teenage Disney star Skai Jackson when the
14-year-old urged her to chill out following her attack on
Zayn.
A war of words continued throughout Wednesday, with Banks offering
up inappropriate, sex-themed tweets and unprovoked attacks on
Jackson's mom. The tweets were later deleted.
Banks was subsequently removed from a headlining set at London's
Born & Bred Festival after organizers stated they would not
tolerate her language, and now it looks like the rapper's Twitter
account has been suspended.
The rapper found an alternative way of briefly tweeting fans on
Thursday (12May16), writing: "So @twitter suspended me? I'll be
back you can't keep a black K**T down".
Meanwhile, Azealia is being investigated by authorities at the Home
Office over her Zayn Malik tweets, according to NME.com. This could
lead to a U.K. ban.
In a statement issued to NME, a Home Office spokesman said, "Coming
to the U.K. is a privilege, and we expect those who come here to
respect our shared values. The Home Secretary has the power to
exclude an individual if she considers that his or her presence in
the U.K. is not conducive to the public good or if their exclusion
is justified on public policy grounds."
However, the Home Office representative refused to confirm Azealia
is under investigation.
Before her Twitter account went dark on Thursday (12May16), Banks
issued a statement, in which she explained why she insulted Malik.
She also stated she believed she was corresponding with Skai
Jackson's mother, not the teenager, during her fiery exchange on
Wednesday, but the tweeted statement did not contain an apology in
any form.
