Anne Hathaway was not first choice for The Devil Wears Prada
Anne Hathaway has revealed she was not the first choice to play Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada, and had to wait for Rachel Mcadams to turn the role down.
The Spotlight star was up for the leading role opposite Meryl Streep in the film adaptation of Lauren Weisberger's novel after scoring box office gold with The Notebook in 2004, and Hathaway admits she always knew she was filmmakers' second choice.
"I didn't have to audition (for the role), I had to be patient,"
she tells Variety. "I wasn't the first choice."
Anne finally got the role and still recalls the magic moment when
the phone call came in: "I was putting on a shirt. I had some
buddies over. I remember running out in my living room, half
dressed, screaming, 'I got The Devil Wears Prada! I got The Devil
Wears Prada!'"
