Johnny Depp steers clear of personal problems in first interview since divorce drama
Johnny Depp has given his first full interview since his divorce news exploded to punk icon-turned-radio personality Steve Jones.
The former Sex Pistols star sat down with the actor on his Jonesy's Jukebox radio talk show on Sunday (26Jun16), but it was clear the two friends would not be talking about Depp's personal problems.
Instead, Depp was joined by his Hollywood Vampires bandmates Matt
Sorum, Robert DeLeo and Bruce Witkin, and they chatted about the
group's recent European tour, which took place while the actor's
estranged wife Amber Heard was filing to end their marriage while
accusing her soon-to-be-ex of physical and emotional abuse.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star told Jones his musical career is
not a joke, revealing he has been rocking since he was a teenager,
and only fell into acting to pay the rent.
He said, "Somebody said, 'Why don't you go meet an agent. My agent
is with Nic Cage', so she sent me on an audition for something and
I got it... It seemed like a good way to pay the rent for a
minute."
Depp plans to return to the stage for a North American tour, which
begins in Pennsylvania on Friday (01Jul16), despite the fact his
divorce drama will hit a Los Angeles court in mid-August (16), when
Heard's request for a permanent restraining order against her
estranged husband will be discussed.
The couple was scheduled to face off in court earlier this month
(17Jun15) but the hearing was postponed amid reports Depp and Heard
were attempting to reach a private settlement.
In response to Heard's abuse allegations, Depp's lawyers have
claimed the actress is "attempting to secure a premature financial
resolution by alleging abuse".
