Adele appeared to confirm rumors she has married partner Simon Konecki by referring to him as her "husband" during her Grammy Awards acceptance speech.

The 28-year-old singer was collecting her gong for Album of the Year at the awards ceremony at Los Angeles' Staples Center on Sunday night (12Feb17), and hit headlines when she dedicated the prize to Beyonce.

However, viewers also noticed another news-making moment, when Adele referenced "husband" Simon - the father of her four-year-old son Angelo.

“My husband, my son, you’re the only reason I do it,” she said, after a tearful speech.

Speaking to reporters backstage after her victorious evening, Adele changed her tune and referred to Simon as her "partner", according to People.com.

Adele first sparked rumors she and Simon had wed in secret last December (16) when she was seen wearing a gold band on her ring finger, following speculation the couple were set to tie the knot over the Christmas period.

The couple reportedly got engaged in October and a source told The Mirror newspaper they would wed over Christmas so Simon's daughter from his first marriage could be a guest.

“The plan is to marry in LA. The wedding will be in one of the school holidays so Simon’s daughter can attend," the source said. "It’s looking like it will be Christmas, but they want to keep details under wraps.

“Adele is not even wearing her engagement ring. They’re a private couple and only want their nearest and dearest there.”

The couple's son was believed to have been front and center at the nuptials.

Speaking previously about what attracted her to Simon, who she has dated since 2011, Adele told Vanity Fair magazine: "I have no desire to be with anyone in show business because we all have egos. He’s not threatened by any stage of my life that I’m going for, and that’s an amazing thing. It’s the most serious relationship I’ve ever been in."
