Adam Yauch lands posthumous Brooklyn park honour
Late Beastie Boys star Adam 'Mca' Yauch has been honored with his own park in his native Brooklyn, New York to mark the first anniversary of his death.
The rapper's mother, Frances, and bandmate Adam 'Ad-Rock' Horovitz joined Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz at a special event on Friday morning (03May13) to unveil the new name plaque in the Brooklyn Heights playground, near Yauch's childhood home.
Addressing the crowd at the dedication ceremony, Adam Horovitz
joked, "It's fitting that we're here today to dedicate a playground
to Adam Yauch, because, like the Wu-Tang Clan, Beastie Boys is for
the children."
Turning serious, he then said, "I'd like to thank the New York
Parks Department and the people of Brooklyn for honouring my friend
and brother, and recognising how cool it is to have an Adam Yauch
park for other crazy New York kids."
Adam Yauch, 47, died of throat cancer on 4 May, 2012.
