SUNDAY MUSIC VIDS: Deee-Lite

"Ooh-la-la, la-lalalala-la!"
Before there
was Lady
Gaga, there was Lady
Miss Kier, and she and her Deee-Lite posse
gave us one of the hottest dance tracks in the
early-'90s.
Who didn't love
"Groove is in the Heart"?? Many of you reading this probably
weren't even born yet when it was released in 1990, but take my
word for it -- it blew our minds! As if the song
wasn't groove-tastic enough, we got this orgy
of psychedelia music video to go with it!
The phrase
"ahead of their time" gets thrown around a lot, but in the case of
Deee-Lite and the Lady, it was definitely true. Anyone who was
around and fashion-conscious in the '90s will remember the
resurgence of 1960s "Flower Power Chic" that occurred. Fun
thing about Deee-Lite is, when this song and video first came out,
we were still a few years off from that. In 1990, we were still
spraying our bangs sky-high and risking certain fatal injuries with
our slap-bracelets. Not even Madonna had caught on
yet -- she was still milking that cone bra at the time (no pun
intended). Then comes along Kierin Kirby with her platform shoes,
hip-huggers, and falls to give us a glimpse of the look we
ourselves would be rocking in a few short years.

fierceness and slide whistles of "Groove is in the Heart" below
