TikTok Stars Sam & Hootie Hurley Reveal Secrets Behind Their Videos

(upbeat music) What's up Young Hollywood? Today we're in the studio with TikTok stars and brothers, Sam and Hootie Hurley. What's up guys, how are you?

Good, good thank you.

Welcome to the Young Hollywood studio how are you guys feeling-

Yes uh, excited thanks for having us definitely.

Well we're here to talk about all things TikTok. So, throwing it all the way back to when you first created your account ever, both of you. What do you remember deciding like, "Hey I'm gonna go to the App Store and download TikTok."

Um there was a guy I follow on Instagram. He was like in a brand deal and was like, "Follow me on TikTok, I'll be only on there this weekend." Blah blah blah, and uh, so I did it and I just started posting random stuff from my camera reel and they would like get like 10,000 likes. And starting from like nothing I was like, "What the heck?" Like it was crazy and I just wanted to keep on posting anything I could find.

What do you feel like when you see that 10,000 people liked your video?

It makes you feel like loved and like wanted you know? Makes you feel like accomplished. It doesn't make anyone be better than anyone else or anything 'cause it's just likes you know.

Did you celebrate when you hit like a certain amount of followers?

I never got like a cake or banner or anything, no.

Have you always been into social media to like where you liked creating videos and stuff?

Yeah I made YouTube videos for like six years and I had 223 subscribers. I remember the exact number. And I didn't care if I got zero viewers or if I got a million that'd be amazing. But if I got zero viewers who cares 'cause I had fun making it. And that was all that matters.

Do you remember Hootie?

Uh yes.

Downloading TikTok?

I do, so actually I went to college to run track but I broke my hip real bad and I had to have hip reconstruction. And that took a while to come back from And once I came back and was healthy again I jumped into the next season, I was so excited and to be honest my heart wasn't there anymore. It wasn't my passion anymore. And I came home back to Arkansas where Sam lives and he's like, "Hey you wanna make a TikTok with me?" I was like, "Sure why not?" Not at all. And I did and it was fun. So, that's basically, so then I was like, "You know what I'll start making some." And then-

Yeah and have you had an account all to watch his videos, or you created?

Mm-hmm, I had an account just to watch his stuff-

You just weren't posting?

Just to keep up with what he was posting. So then I posted some videos from my camera roll, it's on there too.

He posted a video where, like a video that I made with him just like saying this is my brother. He posted a video of the behind-the-scenes of that.

Mm-hmm.

Oh my gosh.

That's so fun. Do you remember the first video you made together?

It was a Lil Pump song it was like-

It go, I don't remember what it was, I don't remember- I remember we bid a dollar that it goes something about, "I'm rich," or something, so then we held like dollar bills out there like, like kinda grills looking- And I remember I jumped across the room on to my bed. I was wearing a white Nike shirt that had a hood. I was wearing your, that was before you were wearing-

You were wearing my merch-

I was wearing his merch 'cause his logo's like a dollar sign but it's like S H.

When you look through your profiles what is one of your favorite videos that you have posted, that you always remember?

Mine is, so I was at Urth Caffe with Jacob Sartorius and Cameron Dallas. And we were just like eating and, I was like gonna make a video and I was like, "Wait this would be kinda cool." If, okay so you know that like the first generation of social media was like Cameron Dallas right?

Oh my God yeah.

And the like the second generation was like Jacob Sartorius.

Yeah.

And then now we're in the third which is like-

That's you!

Which was like me and my friend and all that. Yeah. I thought it was so cool 'cause it's like the first, second, third generations all in one video 'cause it started off-

It literally.

It was just me and I was like doing something with like my skateboard or something. And the next clip was me and Jacob and the next clip was me, Jacob and Cam all dancing. So it was like, I thought it was like so cool I was like-

It's epic, it's literally, it's literally in line.

I was so happy with that one, it didn't even do that good I mean it did good-

Which is shocking 'cause-

It got like 100,000 likes but I thought it would like...

Pop off like-

Do more than the 14 million.

The 14 million one, what about yours?

So it was my junior year of high school, it was just a video I had on my camera roll. Some of my friends that are in track with, we built a pole vaulting runway in my friend's backyard in the middle of the woods. Casual right? And it was downhill too, so we'd be faster. Yeah. So it's a video of me-

Downhill, nice.

Barrelling down this hill full sprint holding a 15-foot pole vaulting pole, and then I pole vault and launch myself way up in the air. And um, then afterwards my friend got excited 'cause that was new personal best for me. And it was really cool.

That was your personal best (chuckles).

Yeah it was, I believe that was like 16 feet there.

Oh my God.

And then my friend came up and tackled me like on the pit and I don't even remember what song I put over it. But it was cool and uh, I put it on TikTok not thinking about it. And then it, I don't even remember how many likes it got but it got like 12 million views.

Oh my God people really-

And I was like, "Wow that's cool!" 'Cause it's random, 'cause it's like woods and then just dude in short shorts. Running through the woods. Yeah so it's just random. It's like those memes like, "He's probably out cheating on me, what he's really doing."

Yes that's exactly right. Literally what he's really doing, love it.

Yes.

Okay now we have a fun little game, basically it's like who is who? Which brother is more likely to do which situation? So I'm gonna read off a list of questions and you're gonna decide if it's Sam or if it's Hootie.

Okay yeah.

Which brother is more of the flirt?

Mmm probably, probably Hootie. I'm more-

I raise my hand.

I'm more low-key you know. Yeah. Hootie's like, "Hey you're good looking what's your name?"

(interviewer laughs) What is the last text you sent each other?

I'm gonna look really quickly because-

Let's just see. I'm curious as well. Well usually how our text messages work is I'll text him and then he doesn't reply. I'll text him like then like three days later I'll text him something else, or even "How you doing?" Nothing. Nothing back.

Why don't you reply Sam?

Sometimes it's not that I mean to do it, I don't answer texts a lot. 'Cause who uses texts?

Everybody Sam!

No they don't!

No I don't Snapchat that much! Should we Snapchat chat you or Snapchat you a pic?

Ooh. Snapchat chat, if it's like important 'cause pics just get locked up if it's red. But if it's blue or like purple like I'll watch it.

How's it important when it goes away?

Well I'll read the last text. So it was basically a conversation and then he was like, "Don't you have an interview in the morning?" And I was like, "I'll ask." And then I said, "Did you find it?" Talking about like my room and he said, "Yes." And I said, "Bet." And then that was it. Really entertaining text. So really the last conversation was, "Did you find it?" "Yes, bet." But there's a lot of rooms in the house and they all look similar. They're like 13.

Which brother is more likely to keep a Snapchat streak?

You would Mr. Snapchat Snapchat we don't, "who text these days anyways?"

And I only have streaks like four, five people. Dude my longest streak's three days. That's a record.

Do you, how long is yours do you know?

Probably should I look? Yeah. Oh my gosh. It's not, I mean I only Snapchat like five to 10 people like maybe even less that that. Let's read names. 72 is my longest streak with my friend Jevan.

Which brother is more likely to randomly hit on a girl in public?

Hootie. Like I said, I don't play games. If I think someone's pretty I'ma say, "Hi what's your name?"

Does it usually work out for you if you go up to them?

I'm very single so how good is it working out?

Last one, describe your brother in three words.

Goofy, loyal and, and maybe like dependent. Like if you ever need anything or anything like that you can depend on him.
