The Voice Behind Squid Game Doll on Being Rami Malek's Good Luck Charm

About this video
If you are like everyone else in the world and watched Netflix's "Squid Game", then you know two things: (1) Ga-Yeong is probably the most important character, as she is the main reason Gi-hun joined the Games in the first place, and (2) the Red Light Green Light Doll is instantly iconic. Now, the English-language voice behind BOTH characters, Reagan To, is in the Young Hollywood Studio to tell us all about her experience working on this series and her reaction to its phenomenal success! She also tells us about her other amazing skills, like being a professional ballroom dancer, and how she and Oscar-winning actor Rami Malek have a special connection! Plus, we play a game of "Starburst Stack", and she pitches her choice for her next iconic line for Season 2!

Hi, I'm Reagan. I'm a young Hollywood here for an interview about Squid Game.
I'm the English voice of the Red Light, Green Light doll.
What's up, Young Hollywood? Today with a very special guest.
Hi, Reagan. Hi everyone. How's it going?
I'm doing amazing. You look so good. You look so cute.
Thank you.
Do you pick out all your own outfits?
Yeah, my mom helps me sometimes but I'm mainly in charge.
Do you like like are you a fashionista? Do you like picking outfits?
Yes, for sure, for sure. I love dressing up. I love dressing up.
Where do you get most of your clothes? Um, In person, do you shop?
Yes. Mostly in person and sometimes online. Yeah, because in person you can choose like the size and everything and it's like everything's easier to pick out. Yeah, for sure.
Okay, so you are the English voice of the Red Light, Green Light on Squid Game.
Yes.
That is pretty crazy, right?
Yeah, I couldn't believe it got so popular. Like, wow, like, like so many views on Netflix. 111 million and even more. It's like the number one show that Netflix has ever had.
And when you were recording your voice, did you that was pre obviously it coming out, did you know about did you like think it was going to be that big of a success?
I didn't know at all. Like the director, when I was inside, she had me cover my eyes during like the violent ones. Yeah. And the only thing I saw was just the 10-foot giant robot doll looking at me. So, I just said Red Light, Green Light and it's it's it's become so popular. And I was so confused the first time, but
Do you think how many times do you think you've said Red Light, Green Light?
About a hundred now. By now.
Only a hundred? You think more?
Because like in school, people ask me to say Red Light, Green Light. All right. But Um, um, it's not really allowed to say it too much because Squid Game is not really child appropriate. Right. So, like when fifth graders ask me, I'm like, okay. Yeah. And people actually ask me for my autograph. It's really fun.
Is that crazy? Yeah. Do you do you kind of like like that lifestyle? Like the autograph and you know, you knowing of such a famous voice?
Yeah, it's really, really fun and it's it's really enjoyable, actually. For sure.
Do you like seeing all the content that's being made across social media of the voice and the doll?
Yeah, when I heard when I just looked over YouTube, just Red Light, Green Light, doll, Red Light, Green Light, doll. I just click clicking on it and I was like,
And there's millions and millions and millions of views on like basically any Squid Game video you look up. Yeah. Did you when you listen back to your voice like 'cause you haven't watched the show, right?
Yeah, I haven't watched it.
You haven't watched it. When you like listen to yourself, do you like that? Like do you like hearing it?
It's like so funny because like I don't get to hear my voice on Netflix shows that often. Yeah. And it's just the most watched show and I'm I just hear my voice. I was like, Green Light. I love it.
You're so good at I mean, it's literally you like we're you're so good at it. It's literally you.
Thank you.
What would what other 'cause you're a voiceover actor as well, right? So you do more than just Squid Game. Is there any that we know of?
Um, there is one I just finished filming for a Netflix another Netflix TV show. It's called Synopsis the Myth. It's already out on Netflix. It's not a like Korean drama.
Yeah. Will you watch that one?
I that one is still not really kid-friendly.
Will you watch, do you think, in a couple years you'll go back and watch Squid Game so you can see it live in action?
Yes. Probably. I really want to. That'd be so sick. Yeah.
And apart from being the doll, the English version of the doll, what else are you in Squid Game?
I am the main character's daughter, Ga-yeong. And she everybody keeps saying that I look like her. And I walk around school and everyone's like, Wait, are you are you the girl? I'm like, no, I I just voiced it, but like
I love how people catch on to it, too. Like out and about, obviously, like they know it's your voice by now, but that's so cool that people are like now associating your face with not only your voice, you know what I mean?
Yeah.
And have you met any of the characters in real life, like over Zoom?
No, I haven't, but I really want to meet the the real main character's daughter, Ga-yeong, because she we look like twins people say.
Yeah. Actually, there's a resemblance. I'll see the resemblance. What would you say to her, you think?
Hi. Everybody keeps saying I look like you.
She probably would agree, honestly, too. Yeah. And what and you were on Jimmy Kimmel.
Yes, I was.
You were part of that. Was that crazy? Had you watched him before?
I have watched Jimmy Kimmel like long, long time ago. And when I got on the show like for the first time, Yeah. I I met Rami Malek and that was so fun.
Crazy.
He told me I was his lucky charm. No way. And like, half a year later, he got like the Best Actor award. Yeah. And then I got like, maybe I am.
Maybe. Maybe you are his lucky charm. I feel like that would mean you are definitely his lucky charm. Like that definitely worked out very well for both of you. That's crazy. Is there any other show that you'd want to be on? Like even if it's already out, like a show you love that you would love to be on?
I would want to be on Liv and Maddie. Yes. Yeah. Cuz I love the actress Dove Cameron.
Yes. We've had Dove in the studio before, not on this actual couch. Yes. But not in this this part, but she might be on the right there. Is that her, right? Yes. Yes. She she's been right where you have been before. And apart from your voiceover stuff, you're also a professional ballroom dancer.
Yes. So you're a little dancer, too. Yeah, I I started dancing when I was five and it's really fun and it makes me really happy to dance. Yeah.
What's your favorite song to dance to?
My favorite song to dance to is "Don't Go Yet" by Camila Cabello.
Do you love her?
Yes. I have a show dance to it. Yeah. And I got first place in my competition from dancing.
Oh my God, you got first place? Yeah. That's so good. You do everything. You do you dance, you get first place. You're a winner all around. What do you like to do, okay, so take ballroom dancing out of it. Like if you're just hanging out, like it's just a random Sunday say, what do you also enjoy doing? What do you like to do?
I love baking because it's it's so yummy, first of all. And, um, it's really fun 'cause I love experiencing with new things. Yeah. And one of my favorites, everybody like my entire family is like, make more, make more. Are scones I make. Oh my gosh. And I would like throw in my own twist like chocolate chips or blueberries. And then I would actually give them to my friends. Yeah.
Who helps you like how did you get into baking?
Um, my mom and my grandma are really good bakers.
Okay, so you took after them.
And yeah. So, um, I would just it's they they taught me a little bit more. So, and it really inspired me even more and I really wanted to get more into baking, too. Oh my gosh. You're actually really good at it, too. Everybody loves your we'll have to try your scones sometime.
And what would you say in a couple years from now, what would you are you going to want to go the ballroom route, more voiceovers, modeling?
I would try to do everything because I enjoy all of it and without dancing, I'd be sad. Without acting, I'd be sad. Without voiceover, I'd be sad. Without baking, I'd be sad. Without everything, I'd be sad. So, all of it together just makes me really happy. Yeah.
Well, you're killing it and you have so much success with Squid Game. So. Are you ready to play the game?
Yes.
Okay, now we're going to play, say the name. Starburst stack. It'd be so good. Are you uh, ready are you do you like games?
Yes, I love games.
That's good cuz you know Squid Game and all that. So. Okay, so the basis of the game is that you have a the group of Starburst right here. You have to stack six Starburst on top of each other in five seconds.
Five?
Yeah, five seconds. I think like the world record is like five Starburst but it like it took like an hour for each for each one. Yeah. And you might break the world record today. You never know. In five seconds? And I said we'll have it on camera. So there we go. Do you like Starburst?
I love Starburst.
Is that one of your favorite candies?
Yes. But my dad's a dentist, but he won't know about this. We can just keep it on the DL, so he'll he'll watch this whole video, but we just won't tell him right now. We won't tell him today. Okay.
Okay. This is a good exception. Okay, so I have the questions. If they fall down, you get a question. If not, you have a choice. You can eat it or you can save it for later and you can eat it as soon as the camera's off. Whenever you want to eat it, you can. Okay, okay. Okay, ready? So let me get the timer out. You're like mentally prepared. You're ready to go.
Wait, which one should I stack? Okay, you're going to stack the duo. Let's start with the duos and then we can see how hard it is. Okay, okay. So, six of them in five seconds. Okay. Ready? I'll say on your mark, get set, go and then on go, you go. Okay, ready? On your mark, get set, go. Stop. I had a feeling. The more the higher they go, right? You felt the pressure. It was like, at the fifth one, I was like tilting down a little bit. You knew it was crashing out. Okay, ready? First question. So, if you, there's Squid Game season two, if empathetically speaking, what would you want your iconic line to be if not Green Light, Red Light?
I've actually thought of this question a lot and I was thinking like maybe ready or not, here I come.
Oh my God, that's so perfect. Yeah. Like more games, more games. Yeah. Like look at the camera so we have it if that happens and then you can say it.
Okay. Ready or not, here I come.
Okay, perfect. That's so cute. That's a good one, too. Cuz that would totally fit a game. Like you would they would play on there. Yeah. Okay. Have you gotten ask that question before?
No. I just like, I was thinking like I was thinking just like another line. I was like, Yeah. What should I do? When the director this time, you close your eyes and say and you'll be like, I already know what to say.
Okay, ready? We're going to do it again. Now you have to stack seven. No. You can still do six. Okay. Okay. Ready? On your mark, get set, go. Stop. I let it go past the second. So actually I ended it at six seconds 'cause I had a feeling it was going to crash. Yeah. And I wanted you to have to answer a question. Okay. Question. What has been your favorite video you've seen made about your voice?
My my favorite video is the skit Rami Malek made. Yeah. For Squid Game and then my mom showed me and I heard my voice like Crazy, right? Yeah. Crazy. That was like one of my favorite videos so far.
Yeah, that's really cool. Okay. Ready? Full circle. Yeah. It's literally lucky charm. Like all this stuff, like full, full circle. Okay. Now we're going to do it this way. Ready? We might not break the world record today, but we're well on our way of practicing to get there. Um, um, do I stack on top?
You have to stack all of these. All of those. What if I like
Seven seconds.
Let me just like Strategize.
Okay. You're you're strategizing right now?
Yes, I'm making a plan.
You're thinking about it and you're actually killing it. Wait, can I like. We'll give you a good five seconds to strategize real quick.
Okay. I'll just like layer everything like this. And I'll just like stack. Pre-stacks.
Yeah. Okay, ready?
Yeah.
Okay, you have seven seconds to do all of them. Okay. I feel like ten seconds like ready past. It just did. I'll give you a little bit more time. If you want to accept the challenge.
Wait, what if I
Moving on to the next round. Were you Squid Game for Halloween?
Yes, I was the doll. And like all the fifth grade was like playing Squid Game like Red Light, Green Light. And Oh my gosh. I literally walked by and everyone's like, Wait, are you the doll? I'm like, uh, yeah. Hi.
Did they ever in did they ask you to when they play the game to do it?
Yeah, they actually did. Everyone's like so impressed. Okay. I got it. I got it. I got it. Um,
Yeah. She's strategizing right now. Good. You're doing unlimited time. I just want to you to. You did get them on there. Like you said. Ready? Ding, ding, ding. Imagine falling. I feel like you get all of them since you made you successfully stacked them all. So that's good. We'll have one more question, though. Okay. So besides ballroom dancer, actress, voiceover actress, what is one thing that you think that is your favorite part about this being your life?
I love all of all of like all of it and it just like makes me really happy. But the happiest thing is seeing everyone cheering for me and like all the support I get. Yeah. And it just makes me really happy and proud because I get this I get this opportunity. Yeah.
Yeah. And what's one thing you think that you might want to model for?
I would probably want to model for, hm, what should I want? Maybe like a baking thing?
Ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Giant baking company. You're the face of you're the face of making scones. That'd be a good one. Because then you tie in what you love. And work.
Or I should be like the face of Target. I'll just like a whole giant This is little stuff over here. cooking it up.
Yeah. Well, you did really good with the game. I think you are you going to eat all of them later?
Probably.
Cuz you get to keep all of them. Those are for you, Reagan.
Really?
Yes. All all for you. And you stack them well. But I hope you end up thinking every time you look at Starburst, I hope you think about this amazing game that we composed for you today. Starburst Stack. There you go. That's a good name. We'll call SS. Well, thank you so much for coming by, Young Hollywood.
Thank you so much for having me.
And we can't wait maybe season two, Squid Game, more iconic lines, more acting. We'll see you on Netflix somewhere else, probably. But, thank you so much, Reagan.
