RJ here, hanging outside of the Young Hollywood Studio. Now Mohambi, you guys might not know him yet, but in Europe, he is blowing up. Song Bumby Ride that is huge. Recently just came out in the US. I think you need to get to know this guy. How's it going?
I'm really good, thank you. I'm happy to be in LA. It's it's I love this sound and I get to spend too short times here every time. So but I I enjoy every day. LA is wonderful.
And what's it like? Now you've blown up completely in Europe. Now how are you making the transition to the States?
Well, uh that's the point. That's why I'm here to promote my my single Bumby Ride and to like share it with the States too because I think it's a global song and it it's the response in Europe has been amazing.
My girl we going to rock it out before we get it on. So let me rock you, rock you like a rodeo. I don't want to dance with nobody. I can't help but say, who you're with, baby. I'll pull you over, pull you under. Like this song. It's like just gets in your head. Bumby Ride. It's one of those like you hear, you can't get it out of your head.
Yeah, I mean, Bumby Ride it's it's it's really that summer vibe song that, you know, and it's it's definitely that, you just want to dance. It's a catchy song and it's definitely that song that people want to move to and have a good time to. And that's what Mohambi is all about.
You got to explain that chorus, rock you like a rodeo. What is that? How does someone rock you like a What does it sound like? Come on. I know you got a new song with Nelly that you're about to do the music video for.
Baby, I don't want to dance with nobody but you. If you don't believe me, let me dance all over your body. That's why I'm here. That's why I'm in LA to record the video uh for Miss Me.
So where is home for you now, though? I mean, you're like living out of a suitcase practically.
Uh to be honest, I I I would consider LA as my second hometown because I spend a lot of time here. I love it out here. But nowadays, I really don't have any home anymore. It's everywhere. It's everywhere.
And I I love your story, though, because you came here from Europe, like, not even knowing a lot of people and you're like, I'm determined, I'm going to do music full-time. Like, how did you have the the drive to just take that risk and do it?
Uh I just decided, you know, the thing is that I've been doing music for so long. I'm a performer. I've been standing on stage since I was 12 years old. Uh which is for me really natural. And every year something new would happen. We would say, I would take my musical career to the next level and next. But at one point, I felt that I felt that I needed to take my music to the next level. Take it globally because uh my songs are global, you know? So I just North and South, I I am global. I'm from Africa. My dad is African. My mom is Swedish. Uh my dad is from Congo. So I'm both black and white and I really want to reach out to the whole world. So one day I said to myself, I just need to get to LA because I know that I felt that that's where I have to go and check it out and see what happens, who I meet. And I met with Red One.
You got to say who you meet. You meet with like the music god. I mean, is there anybody bigger than Red One right now?
No, it's it's crazy. What do you call it? Destiny, maybe? Something like that.
It is, right? All right, so let's talk about the future. We're going to be following you around. People might not know you right now in the US. But I have a feeling next time we hook up with you, people be like, "Oh yeah, Mohambi." Maybe. Where are you going to be? Let's talk. Six months from now, a year from now. Paint the picture of what Mohambi is going to be doing.
Well, six months from now, I still want to be touring and I want to reach out, of course, to the Americans.
And you've never performed in LA or in the US?
perform in the US. We're going to get it to happen. That first concert is is maybe this next weekend in New York. We're still discussing. So that could be amazing. Um, six months from now, I'll still be promoting my songs and stand on stage. That's what I love the most. That's where I want to be. That's where I live. I live on stage. Yo, this is your boy Mohambi. I want to boom bang bang with your body, yo. You watching Young Hollywood video. One love. Take care.
I like that.
