Young Hollywood

Hey everybody. Welcome in to Young Hollywood. Look who I'm with today. Kiki Palmer. Oh, how are you? What's going on?

Keke Palmer

Oh my god, your teeth are so perfect. Oh, look at your teeth. Girl, stop.

Young Hollywood

Did you whiten them?

Keke Palmer

I have before. I'm not gonna lie. They look good.

Young Hollywood

I just whiten mine, too.

Keke Palmer

Yeah, you have to keep it up. That's why that's why we're like, Yeah, we're like.

Young Hollywood

Hi. I have to talk to you about your new single.

Keke Palmer

Yes. Bossy. Yes.

Young Hollywood

I saw a clip of it as it's performed on Fox's Star.

Keke Palmer

Yes.

Young Hollywood

Tell me about these shoes. Honey, those shoes are not for the faint of heart. Are these a belt? Is it shoes? What what's the situation?

Keke Palmer

Right, it's like, that's kind of like what it is. It's like shoes that turn into a belt.

Young Hollywood

So how do you put them on?

Keke Palmer

Girl, you have to put them on like shoes and then you have to loop them through the holes of your shorts, which was very a lot because my ratios were different.

Young Hollywood

You have to put them on like this.

Keke Palmer

Yes. Put them on like this. And then you And then you pull up from there. You have to make sure they're really high up, otherwise they won't sit on the belt.

Young Hollywood

And I've never seen anything. This look like a sexy cowboy.

Keke Palmer

Yes, very sexy cowboy. Yes.

Young Hollywood

Situation. The dancing is so great. I mean, you're an incredible dancer. You've danced for how many your whole life almost, right?

Keke Palmer

Yes. But shout out to Sean Bankhead because he gave me a different style of dance. I never usually do. I'm very kind of tomboy. I love street style. So I don't really do too much of the like, you know, kind of Burlesque-y. Yeah, I don't really do too much of that, but that's, I mean, Sean has worked with, of course, Fifth Harmony, tons of people. So he has a particular way of, you know, choreographing and it usually has like, you know, girl with a little songs, and a little swag, and a little sass. And it's different for me. But I was excited to to get that opportunity to work with him.

Young Hollywood

Aside from the bossy song,

Keke Palmer

Yes.

Young Hollywood

I believe you have an album.

Keke Palmer

Yes, I do. It's coming out. It's coming out this year. Um, it's titled The Boss. And so Bossy is just the first single off of it.

Young Hollywood

It's fitting.

Keke Palmer

Yes, you know. The Boss. Bossy. It's only right that we intro you to this project that way. You know, I had my EP that came out, I guess it was a year and a half ago, Lauren, which was just all about kind of the stripped down version of me. You know, people know me most as Kiki Palmer, but my real name is actually Lauren. You know, where I'm from, and just kind of how I came to be, and just that personal type of feeling. Exactly. That's what that project was about, whereas The Boss is all about Kiki Palmer. That brand, you know, the woman that's created that brand.

Young Hollywood

The confidence.

Keke Palmer

The confidence. Exactly. That That side of my persona. And so Bossy, of course, I felt was so fitting to intro them to that world.

Young Hollywood

Well, I love following all your boss moves. There's a trend here because you've started your own record label.

Keke Palmer

Yes, I have.

Young Hollywood

Congratulations. That's a big responsibility.

Keke Palmer

It's a huge responsibility. Not only to myself, but of course, you know, I want to start signing artists and finding people that, you know, want to be nurtured and and to help them on this journey because for me, with music, I've had I went through three record deals before realizing that the system didn't work for me, and that I didn't necessarily need to abide by it.

Young Hollywood

What do you look for in talent? If you're going to bring other people on,

Keke Palmer

Well, I look for sincerity. And then on top of that, I want somebody that is also a bit self-contained. Because again, I think there's a kind of misconception with the industry as if people assume that once they get in it, or if they get signed to a record label, that not everybody else does the work around them. And there's no work that they need to still do. And you have to, because the reality is, no one knows who you want to be or your vision for yourself more than you.

Young Hollywood

If you could choose three boss ladies that inspire you right now,

Keke Palmer

That's easy. Oh,

Young Hollywood

Everybody got it. Okay. Who are your three?

Keke Palmer

So, definitely Oprah. Of course. Because Oprah's work ethic is like, girl, you already got your own food. Then from there, I'd have to say Queen Latifah, because she's done everything. She's

Young Hollywood

And you're working with her now. For. Yes. Working with her for Scream.

Keke Palmer

Yes. I love her own. Yeah, she's um, executive producing on that. And then also working with her on Star. And then last, but of course not least, Beyoncé. Oh. Come on now. Beyoncé's work ethic. I mean, doing video shoots and pregnant. That's taking it to the next level, y'all. She's next level. She's not playing with these girls. She's not She said no days off. So, Beyoncé, and again, I'm always I will say this, I always say this. Virgos. Virgo, honey. Look at you. Yes. Honey, when I tell you Virgos, I really think that there was something sprinkled extra on us. Had to have been. A little a little um

Young Hollywood

A little bit more.

Keke Palmer

A little sparkle dust or something. Just a little bit of something. No offense to anybody else. No offense.

Young Hollywood

You need to get all these Virgos together. Mother Teresa and spiritual debt. Really? You didn't know that.

Keke Palmer

Girl, we've got them all in every category. You didn't know that. Excellence upon excellence. Oh,

Young Hollywood

Well, thank you so much for hanging out with us. So good to see you. You got to toss us out with the gag is.

Keke Palmer

Yes. So, man, so the gag is. Okay. I was trying to think of a joke, but the gag is I didn't have enough time. See you next time.
