What's going on, guys? Welcome into Young Hollywood. We have a very special first-timer in studio today. First-timer in studio. Woo! Alex Aiono. You've been traveling everywhere recently, What's up? but I'm wondering, do you consider LA home?
Well, my mom's calling me.
Is your mom in LA?
Hey mom, I'm at Young Hollywood right now.
Put her on speaker. We'll say hey.
Oh, hey mom. Hey mom, can you say hi to Young Hollywood?
Hey Alex's mom.
Hi Young Hollywood. There's a bunch of cameras right now looking at the phone. And they're seeing that I call you mommy with a heart. It's really embarrassing. Can I call you later, mom? Yeah. All right, love you, bye.
So rule number one about interviews, put your phone on silent. That's always good. But mom, you saved, you saved the day. Moms are always allowed to make special. Always. They're never not allowed. Well, and I know, I I've read your story about how you were discovered, which is incredible, that you were in Santa Monica on the side of the street performing at like 14.
Yeah.
And someone heard your voice,
Yeah.
and the rest is history.
Yeah, it's kind of I don't You know what's funny is is it's such a cliche story. The thing that's different is uh there are so many of those stories that they were like that's all they were doing was performing on the street. You know, they were they were like, this is this is my opportunity to get my voice out. Uh I was fortunately working already in studios with Babyface and and and a bunch of and and, you know, a bunch of really dope producers and I just happened to be doing that just for fun. And then somebody else cut on.
Somebody else cut on.
Yeah, somebody else and then they introduced me to my manager that I have now still to this day. So I never take it for granted, you know, I think
It shows your hustle.
And and it was it was great. Yeah, I mean, I guess so, but it was great because I also got to learn how to perform for people who who really don't want to watch you perform. Like when you're like when you perform on the street you have to realize like most people aren't like walking the street to be like I want to see somebody perform. Right. It teaches you to like really win over a crowd.
Yeah. What a good learning tool. Well, since then you've done so much. You've wrote songs with John Legend. You have millions of followers online. What's been your favorite moment career-wise thus far?
Oh wow.
If you could only choose one?
If I can only choose one? Yes. I would have to say my headlining tour. We just did one uh this year, earlier this year. And that was so special to me because for me it's like my name is the one that's on the board now. So my name is on the board. If it goes really, really well, my name is on the board. And if it goes poorly, like my name is on the board. And like it's my thing. And so if it if it wins, I'm winning, and if it loses, I'm losing. And so uh getting that that pressure that I love to feel. Like those kind of opportunities to really test myself and see where I am and see how I act, you know, when when I need to sell out a show or when I need to perform, you know, an incredible set for the fans, like getting to see myself and watch it it sounds weird, but like watch how I react to something and look back and be like, man, like maybe the going got tough or the pressure was on and you really like you really came through. And so I I it was to me that's what made that awesome. That's so cool. On top of getting to meet all of the fans and spend time with them and and and really connect with them in the VIPs and during the show really like talking. It's like a different level than just being online or being in your studio, you know. Because like when you're online, like you know like most of us can tweet like, oh my gosh, that is so fun, ha ha ha. And we're like laying in bed like this. We're just like. Yeah, yeah. You're chilling. And so it's different when you're when you're in the internet world versus like really being out there and spending time with the fans.
I believe you're working on a full-length album. Yes. And you have a new song no drama that's so good.
Yes I do. Thank you.
But I have a quote here. I'll read it. It's your quote, so you'll know what I'm talking about.
Oh okay.
Um, you said, I know I'm only 22, but I feel like there's never been a time in my life when I wanted a lot less drama and negativity and a lot more love. Okay. Well, what quote, who says it? So, what do you do to spread the love?
For me to to not spread drama, to spread love is solely like by just being honest, being real with people. If somebody tells me something and they're like, yo, guess who did this. I'm like, I don't really care. Like I'm trying to I'm trying to make good music. I'm like writing this music and I and I wrote no drama like specifically about this exact situation because I was in a relationship where I felt like it wasn't a relationship between me and the girl. I was in a relationship that was like me and the girl and her friend and her friends' friend and then her mom and then this and then that. It's like, Oh, yeah, yes. A stuff. Yo, relationships are not supposed to be like that. Relationships are supposed to be me and you,
Positivity.
and and just and just building what me and you can build because when everybody else gets involved, that's when the drama starts happening.
Well, thank you for hanging out with us.
Of course, this was fun.
We loved having you in. We have to toss it out with how you always start your videos with your big smile.
Uh-oh, okay, you ready? You want to do one of these? So we well first you got to fake we got to fake the beat. Oh okay, there's a process. Okay. Oh my gosh, there's a camera. We got to do a big smile for him.
