Hey, it's Skyler Stecker and I'm going to be performing my new single, Crazy Beautiful. Ain't what they want. Ain't what they used to is all we got. We've been gone a month. We're blowing up the fuse making a change.
So, I have to say, when I was 13, I could hardly finish my homework and you just finished your first album.
Yes.
What, you're that's amazing. How was that?
Um it was so much fun making it and it's just unbelievable that to be like, "Oh my gosh, it's like done." And it's crazy.
And you've been working on it for how long? About a year?
Yeah, since like the beginning of this year.
Oh my goodness. And then what was what was your biggest inspiration that you found while you were in the process of making it?
Well, it is called This is Me. So, since it is my first album, I really wanted to get across like and what I write about and what I talk about on the album and the way it sounds like this is me and and a lot of people think like because I am so young and I'm 13 years old that, you know, people are feeding it through me and like telling me what to do, but that's not the case at all. It's really this is what I want to do forever and this is my life and, you know, stuff. This is me.
Right. So, then who are you? If you could describe yourself kind of in a few words.
Um, well, I'm very upbeat and like energetic, but then I'm also, I really take like certain things like really seriously. Like, um, one second of the day, I'll be like laughing and making jokes and then like when I get on stage, I'm like like divo like like it's just super serious. Yeah, so, yeah. I'm done waiting forever for this note. I can't keep running away. Yeah, I got one. Yeah, no one shut up in that. I just told you, we're not going to blow up. I'm going to turn it up and I'm going to show you. Look, I'm just playing. That's what's up. That's what's up. Yeah, I got one. Shut up.
And then so would you say that you're a bit of an old soul then?
Definitely.
Okay. Definitely. Because I did not think that you were your age. And you know, I think I'm an old soul. Like I, you know, everyone calls me a grandma, so maybe I'm not an old soul, I'm just an old person, but
No, that's.
You're so mature and to be able to write the songs that you write and perform the way that you do. I have to say, you're you're quite amazing.
Thank you. Crazy, beautiful. So unusual. It's bound time you show your freedom, freedom, freedom. Got that type of soul. The kind that can't be sold. It's bound time you show your freedom, freedom, freedom.
When you're writing your songs then, are you using your own personal experiences?
Yeah. Yeah, most of the time, um, they are personal experiences, but a lot of the songs are like about relationships and like love and stuff like that. And like, I feel like I can relate to it because I like you said, I feel like an old soul and I've gone through all these things, but I haven't. So, it's really weird because my mom's like, "Who are these secret people like that you're meeting up in the middle of the night like and having these things?" It's because I But I'm like, "No one." We're making noise. Shouting the silence. But they hear us out. Don't when they hear us, I I know I've got no other choice. Can't say that this fight. Nobody can break it out.
So, I have to bring up. You were just named Elvis Duran's Artist of the Month.
Yes.
Which is crazy, right? Because you're following the footsteps of Austin Mahone and Tory Kelly. How does that feel?
It's unbelievable and it's just so amazing that I've only been doing this for three and a half, four years. And for these things to be happening so quickly, it's just unbelievable and amazing and it's crazy.
I read that you kind of discovered your talent by surprise.
Yes. You sang. Yes, I did. I was nine. And I was um at a talent show to play the piano. And when I was auditioning, they're like, "No, no, no. We don't want you to play piano. We want you to sing." And I was like, "Oh my God, like I do not know how to sing." And I sang for them. And a week later that they wanted me to sing in the talent show, which was caught me and my family by complete surprise because no one in my family sings. I didn't sing. I didn't think I could sing. Everyone was just like, "Oh my goodness." Um, so I sang week later. And it was just like at that moment, everything clicked and I just knew that that's what I wanted to do forever. I know you know what's best for me. I know you've been waiting patiently. You got my hands over the fire. I know you want to take me higher. I don't want to jump until I'm sure. It's not like my heart is insecure. The moment I'm ready, I'll just know it. I'm going to know it. I'll know. Maybe not this way, but no. When I'm not afraid.
Are you going to tour with this album then?
You know, I hope so. I hope. I think it would be so cool or getting on somebody else's tour. Um it's just like finding a good fit, but yeah, it'd be really cool, too.
Who would be your dream person to open up for?
Beyoncé.
Hear that, B? Oh yeah, she's watching this. Yeah. Yeah. She's good. Like, I could so see that. That would be amazing. And then, I love her. Beyoncé's life. So, who is who is your ultimate musical inspiration? Beyoncé, obviously, is up there, I'm going to assume. Who else?
You know, I also really, really like Bruno Mars. Um, I think he's like the boy Beyoncé. But I think his voice is just incredible and he's so awesome. Um, and I also really like like Alicia Keys. But I really, really like Tori Kelly right now. Like you just brought her up. She's awesome.
Yeah. She's killing it. She's really good. Yeah, well, I mean, hello, you're Like she's killing it. I'm on the same list as her. That's you're so incredible. No, you're so humble and you're so sweet too, and it's just it's really great to see that.
Oh, thank you. One more time and I'm with you there. I know. Maybe not today, but no. Come on if you know. I know. And a little more time and I'll take you there.
Your album, it's it's called This Is Me, and I feel like a lot of your songs are really inspiring and you are all about empowerment and like, you know, girl empowerment, women empowerment. How do you stay so confident? And what kind of advice do you have for your younger fans?
You know, just to stay true to yourself. And that's how I get have the most confidence is just being comfortable in my own skin and just being myself. That's also this is me. And I felt that was a good message, you know, to have the title of the album be. Express yourself to everyone and don't be scared to. Yeah.
Amazing. Speaking of this is you, I want to do some rapid-fire questions for her. I want to get to know you a little bit better.
Awesome.
Are you ready?
Yes.
They're going to be super quick. Oh, I'm just kidding. You can take your time. Okay. So, ready? I prefer staying in or girl's night out?
That's it depends on my mood, but girl's night out.
Girl's night out. Okay. Getting dressed up or rocking cozy clothes?
Cozy clothes.
That's how I feel right now. Like cozy. Like cozy sweater, like
Cozy. I like the cozy clothes.
You can get dressed up in cozy clothes.
Exactly. That works too.
