I'm here with Jason Isaacs.

Young Hollywood

We're talking tennis. You know, we have so much. Do you play?

Jason Isaacs

Yes.

Young Hollywood

Can I ask you a geeky question? What, uh, rating are you? Do you know?

Jason Isaacs

No. No, there you go.

Young Hollywood

What does that mean?

Jason Isaacs

Well, you can be there's a handicap, like in golf. So I'm a 4. 5, which means 4. 5 people have a good match. 5. 0 people will crush me like a bug. I'm a 50. That's would be very good. Oh, that would be good. So how do you go? That would be. Roger Feder is a 7. 0. So if you're a 150, you're an Avenger.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, I'm not good. You said that in interviews you talk utter bollocks.

Jason Isaacs

Bollocks. Bollocks are animals, bollocks are testicles. And that's what I talk about.

Young Hollywood

Oh, which one were you referring to?

Jason Isaacs

Well, you know, you just the thing is, I'm in this thing. It's very, very good. It's written by brilliant people. It's great. Me sitting on a sofa, I don't know if anybody watching this. I can say anything to make them tune in. Watch the trailer, watch the show. If you like it, keep watching it.

Jason Isaacs

Hey. Hey, what the hell are you doing here? Police business. Yeah. Try to go around my back. I'm going to go around yours. He was meant to be giving us a pass on this. Hold on a second. You want to lose your hand? Do that again. You can stay out here in the traffic if you want. I'm going in. There you are. There's my suspect. In my country, who the hell do you think you are, huh? I'm FBI. Hey. Hey. Hey, Billy.

Young Hollywood

I saw the promo and you're doing your your in caves. You've got got flashlights, you've got guns. You've got all the kit. You're making out in the pool of water.

Jason Isaacs

That's absolutely correct with the lovely Alison. You should have one because she is young Hollywood. Actually, the stuff that I really loved when I was doing it and when I met them, first of all, uh, is that what I liked about it is that it made me rush off to the internet and find out how much of this really scary shit was true. And, uh, actually, tons of it is true. So, not only is it a kind of fun roller coaster right to watch, but it also hopefully scare the living shit out of you when you go to bed at night because, uh, most of the, uh, crazy people on screen exist in real life, but worse.

Young Hollywood

Wow. And this is kind of, I know the the show runners have like akin it to the Da Vinci Code.

Jason Isaacs

It is like that. It's got a big puzzle and there's ancient groups working for the end of the world. And it's, you know, it's a mystery in these extraordinary places. But it's created by the guy who created Homeland. And and also the guy who created Heroes. And together, they made a beautiful match. And, uh, they're just great storytellers. And it's set in a place that you just don't see. We had access to shooting places. No one's ever been.

Young Hollywood

I've heard this. you went you actually shot there. And these were, I mean, how how did the access happen first of all and.

Jason Isaacs

Uh, Gideon Raff, who created Homeland, is from Jerusalem. And, uh, he knows that he's always got his thing on the pulse. The zeitgeist. For some reason, Homeland just kind of played into America's fears. And that's why it took off in the way. And in the same way, he knows because where he's from, that when when, no, if the world ever ignites into some terrible powder keg, the spark will go off, not in Jerusalem, but in one hill in Jerusalem, the Temple Mount. That's the place where if something goes wrong, though these nasty forces of the world lined up against each other are likely to collide. And so he's always thought, that's the place to set a story.

Young Hollywood

How has this role been sort of a stretch or different or challenging compared to anything you've done before?

Jason Isaacs

Well, what was different, I think, is that I'm aware that what it's a fantasy. I mean, it's a fantasy and they they exaggerated things and made them, you know, exciting to watch. But but there's very real danger in the world right now. You don't need to look very far to find out how the world's poised on the brink all the time. And when we were shooting there, we had to then move because there's terrible conflict. So we had to move to Croatia and Alki to finish it. You get a sense that you're not faking stuff. The stakes are really high. And, uh, so as much as we're in this fabulous conspiracy thriller and it's sexy and exciting, it's also about the real world. And, uh, all around you are people for whom these things are very real.

Young Hollywood

Another thing I read, now, I don't know if this is true or not, you're a fan of Modern Family.

Jason Isaacs

I'm a huge fan of Modern Family. Really? I was shooting a week on the lot. Fox lot where they shoot Modern Family. And one day I saw the actor who plays Jesse come out of his trailer in a sailor's outfit. And just sort of laughing uncontrollably. I didn't know what the story was, you know, why he was doing it. I just I love the show. I love all of them. Ty Burrell as well was in Black Hawk Down. And I remember thinking if you go, he's a lovely, lovely guy. I hope something good happens for him.

Young Hollywood

I didn't know he was in that movie.

Jason Isaacs

Yeah, he has one line in it. I remember thinking very patronizingly, he's a lovely guy and a talented actor. One line, you can see that, you know, he didn't need a talent agent. And then then next thing I knew, there he was on the cover of every magazine deservedly.

Young Hollywood

And I've read I've read too that you're not like you you definitely don't like the spotlight. You like to sort of and I know after Potter, there were so many groupies. Do the groupies still, you know, is that still

Jason Isaacs

Well, you know, there was that weird thing that happened when you go to the Potter events, there'd be people who would camp out for weeks. And particularly these young girls and young women who would make sure they got their spot at the front of the barriers by sleeping in the street for a week or two before you got there. And then you go up and they go, can I have a selfie? And you'd hug them, you'd realize they stunk like people who sleep in the street. And they had been defecating in plastic bags. And, uh, they were yeah, hell yeah. And so it was an odd thing that these just thousands and thousands of very sweet kids who stunk like um like a dead body.

Young Hollywood

I thought you were just going to tell the story the one about the woman, I think the mother or something that like grabbed your behind in the

Jason Isaacs

No, that happens now, but we're in Florida opening the theme park, or launching a DVD, or some thing that we do. And, uh, there were thousands of people lined up there who'd come from other countries. And a woman goes, and they're mostly kids, obviously. And a woman goes, will you sign my breasts? And I go, put them away. What are you doing? What are you doing? You're surrounded by kids. Only you have do you have kids? She goes, I have eight kids. And I go, what do they think? And they all went, do it, do it, do it. Because they were standing right next to their mom. So that was odd.

Young Hollywood

It's great having you here. Thanks very much. Thanks for coming in. I'll see you on the golf course.
