It's been a few years.

Your career's expanded, we've expanded. Everything's just expanding. And having you here in a hotel is not at all uncomfortable for me.

The Bates Motel has been upgraded. I'll sit with you while you have your lunch, sweetheart. So glad you're back, Norman. It's not normal. Norman's 18, he shouldn't be sleeping in the same bed as his mom. I've been thinking about something. What is it? I'm going to make you motel manager. All righty, mother. I'll be your motel manager. I first of all wanted to like run my death stare by you. You got it down, so I was going to give it a go. Give it a whirl. I don't know if I could do it with you though, 'cause you're so sweet. I tell you, Norman's sweet, isn't he? Norman's very nice. It's always the ones that seem sweet. But okay. Can you give me a tip? What the heck are you channeling?

I guess you just think about you want to be killing someone and then see what happens. Actually, I drive in LA so that happens on a daily basis.

Okay, here we go. So you're in the early morning traffic. Is this your pre-act? You just keep thinking about this. Maybe tilt your head down a little bit. Perfect. Are you feeling uncomfortable?

I'm very uncomfortable.

I've read that you've done, this is the most intense research you've ever done for a role.

I guess, especially with Psycho coming before it there was and then the book and the real life events upon which the the book was based. Psycho, the novel. Lots in in that respect. And I guess with the original film it was never an attempt to sort of mimic it but to use it as some sort of inspiration I guess. So I've watched Psycho kind of every season before starting up.

Oh, you do. You rewatch it every time?

And then I've also felt free to kind of I guess because it's set in the modern day, free to interpret it. It's just fun to kind of blink at it. And the third season is definitely much more along the lines of that Norman than ever before.

You must ponder the word normal quite a bit. Having done this show. But as you and Vera get, you know, further and further along and, you know, those creepy scenes, things that should just never happen, happen. How is that for you as an actor shooting that with Vera?

On occasion there's we end up laughing or there's a break in the scene where we pushed it too far. But that's a good guideline usually that is a scene where we end up rubbing noses or as close as possible and then if it goes on for too long then it's then it becomes fake and unreal and so you end up laughing. But it's those moments that push you to that extreme where it's just the the start of the bond. Going to different places.

Bond is such a great word to use for for that. This is the the promo that they released for season three, a scene where you're in the bathtub. Yes. And your eyes pop open. The scene, yeah. Yeah. No, you, Freddie, the actor, shooting that scene in the bathtub. How was that? Was it warm? Was it cold? Because sometimes I feel like it's Was it? Did it make a nice warm bath for you?

No, it was warm. It was. It was a lovely warm bath.

What has been sort of the most one of the scenes that sort of stands out for you as being like, wow, that was cold?

Well, the cold one was in the second season when we're all jumping into this lake. It was originally written as this beautiful summer scene and we were all going to get incredibly refreshed. But then we ended up shooting it in October or November in Vancouver.

In Vancouver, in a glacier fed lake in the mountains and so they did rewrite the scene saying, oh, it's a bit cold. How is Vancouver? I'm from Canada. I've never been. How is it there?

It's I mean, it rains a lot. But I think they like that darkness and the the rain and long nights. But it is a really beautiful. This is not a promo for moving to Vancouver. It's rainy.

Oh, it is. You know it. It's dark night. Did you just have a birthday?

On Valentine's Day, 14th of February.

Okay. Now, do you celebrate Valentine's Day in the in England?

Yeah. Yeah, we do that too.

That is quite a day to have as a birthday. Does that mean you're expected to be especially romantic?

I guess it always means that you've got cards. Never.

So you get more excited about the Valentine's part or the birthday part?

I guess it depends on the year. Right. Sure. But I've had a lot more birthdays given that I'm 23.

I know. I know. How many times have people asked you in interviews did you ever act?

A few times, yeah.

Can I ask a little? Just a little something. A little bit. Um, yeah, I'm going to have a lot of football. What was it? Was it a promo for Bates Motel? Yes, you go watch

No, it wasn't. No, it was that I like football a lot.

Soccer. Oh my gosh. You mean soccer?

Soccer. Yeah.

Right. Will you ever move to LA, do you think? I know you still live over in the UK.

Maybe. I just I guess it's always home is in London and so it's the majority of your friends and that's where you know as home. So for now I'll probably be between there and Vancouver.

Again. The business is always calling. No, for people to move. For there are good things to do in England, too.

No, but it's but it's also nice, I think, to have that balance. And it's worked well for me growing up as well, having a certain separation from from LA and from being defined when you're younger purely as being an actor and I think it would have been trickier to have a life outside from it had I grown up in LA.
