Young Hollywood

Hey, what's up, guys? Nicole Coz for Young Hollywood, and I'm here at the Dog Bakery with the star of the CW's, Save Our Shelter, Rocky Kanaka.

Rocky Kanaka

Hey, thanks for having me. I'm really excited. To, uh, whip up this pumpkin pie.

Young Hollywood

Of course. This is our little buddy today, his name's Peanut. Peanut's a star. He loves treats, people, and, as you can tell, just hanging out. That's amazing. Yeah. So, we know that Thanksgiving's coming up, Right? Right around the corner. And this is where we're gonna start Barksgiving. Okay, RC, you ready to make this pumpkin pie?

Rocky Kanaka

I'm so ready. Okay, so this is one element of the Barksgiving dinner. This is my favorite part because it's dessert. Right? Dessert first is my life motto. Okay, so first, a pumpkin pie has three elements, right? Okay. The crust, the filling, Okay. And then what's the best part? The whipped cream? The whipped cream. So we're gonna go through all that. We're first gonna make the crust. First, here we have our oat flour, rice flour, potato starch, Okay. water, we've got oil, unsweetened applesauce, honey. Uh, I like to use clover honey. You can't always find clover honey, but it's got a little extra sweetness to it that I really enjoy and appreciate. It's got a good texture. But if you can't find clover honey and you just have regular honey, that's, it's okay. We'll throw the egg in there. You're gonna want to go ahead and start now, uh, between making the crust and the filling to preheat your oven. Okay. See how smooth that is?

Young Hollywood

Yes. It looks great.

Rocky Kanaka

Yeah. Okay. Stamp out that first pie. Okay, so we'll finish putting these in here and then we're gonna pop it in our oven that's already preheated, and we'll let that bake for about 20 minutes but just watch them so that you can, uh, see when they're golden brown.

Young Hollywood

Great. Perfect. Look at that. Gold star. Perfect. But what is it missing?

Rocky Kanaka

The beautiful pie filling. We're using a lot of the same ingredients. Rice flour, unsweetened applesauce, clover honey, my favorite and the secret to this entire recipe, pumpkin. Now, okay, here's why pumpkin's so important. Not only because it's a pumpkin pie. Uh. But, because this is like the great equalizer for dogs. It's very fibrous and so it really helps with their digestive system. Right.

Young Hollywood

Nice. Okay, so again, we're gonna mix these together. You want to put the dry ingredients in there?

Rocky Kanaka

Sure. Now, do you want to crack the egg?

Young Hollywood

No. Okay. Okay, give it a whirl. We've We've got more eggs if you mess up, I think.

Rocky Kanaka

Okay, good. Good. See? Woah! No. Oh. There's a shell, there's a shell. I got this. It's okay. We'll get We'll get. Okay, good. That was good. Okay, now watch. Okay, I got the shell outside of the bowl. We'll get the shell amazing.

Young Hollywood

Okay, you just dropped it.

Rocky Kanaka

I did that. Okay. And I have to say, guys, this is like a really good arm workout.

Young Hollywood

It's true, it's true. My arm muscles are already burning.

Rocky Kanaka

It'll get you some exercise. Okay. So now we're gonna fill the filling into the crust. Okay. So we'll make the pie. Make sure you turn your oven down to 300, because you want it a little bit cooler, because now what's happening is you're doing dual baking, right? Okay. All right, so then what we're gonna do is we'll finish these up. We'll pop 'em in the oven and we're gonna let 'em bake for about 20 minutes. Again, just watch them. You'll know, 'cause it'll be golden brown. We pulled them out of the oven. We put whipped cream on top. Look how tasty that is. Look at that, guys. We made those. Made it, and it's healthy, it's natural, it's good for your dog. It's limited ingredients. I mean it doesn't get any better than that. Peanut, you want a treat? All right, cheers, Peanut. Yay! It's a success! Okay, but you can't end, you can't end this without taking a bite yourself. All right. Cheers. Oh my god, that's so good. It's really moist on the inside and it has the crust on the outside. It's perfect.

Young Hollywood

Figgy, so much, Rocky. Okay, thanks. Bye.
