"Fighting" with Channing Tatum

Hey, Young Hollywood, I'm Michelle Hummel and I'm here with Channing Tatum.

Okay, so in the movie Fighting, you actually get to work with some old people that you've worked with and some new fresh faces.

So how was it working with Terrence Howard?

Sean McCarthy.

You like to fight, but I have to.

I can make you $5,000.

Got you interested, huh?

Terrence might be the most beautifully sensitive and deep person that I've ever met in my life.

Did you have any stand out moments on set with him?

He likes to portray that like real actor artist part of himself all the time, but he's a clown, man.

Like we could not stop fighting all the way down the red carpet for the premiere.

We played this game where we hit each other in the throat when we're not looking.

And it's stupid, but it was fun.

That can't feel good.

No, it doesn't.

But especially as hard as he does it sometime. like Terrence.

Okay, that's enough, man.

Take it easy.

It couldn't.

It didn't matter.

Like as soon as you'd be like, you got then you got to get.

So you got to do a variety of different types of fighting in this film.

Is there one thing that you took away that like if you were on the streets or someone mugged you tomorrow that you would automatically go to with instinct?

The one thing that I learned probably paramount is this, if you get in a fight, you're going to get hurt, regardless.

I don't care how tough you are.

And if you're okay with that, then go ahead.

You know, but I I would uh I would try everything I can to get out of it first.

And then yeah, then I learned a few things here and there, you know, I still train now.

I I love MMA and that whole world, so I've been I've been training for for a while after the film.

What's more important, your actual strength or your speed or like movement in terms of like getting out of the way?

Knowledge more than likely is uh one of your most powerful sort of tool.

You can be fast, you can be strong.

You know, you can know how to throw, you know, a punch or, you know, you know moves on the ground, like grappling and whatnot, but it's really comes down to what do you know more than the other person.

A person that is a white belt in Jiji, you will never be able to beat a black belt, you know, that's that's the simplest way to understand it.

The more you know about fighting and or how to the art of fighting, you know, the more you're prepared for.

Now, in the film, Sean has a lot of aggression.

Were you able to easily get to that place every time or was that hard work to get that rage?

I think we all have a little bit of rage.

All that is just built up inside of you.

You know, it's just making a choice to let it out and I'm not afraid to go there.

Rather than a crazy punch or a slam or or anything like that.

Dedo, the director of Fighting.

He wanted the raw emotion. like they're just they sound like demons when they fight, you know, and it's that's what he wanted.

Emotion in a fight is how you sell it.

You got G. I. Joe.

G. I. Joe's a huge, huge movie.

Like I I don't think I realized how big of a movie it was doing it, you know what I mean?

You're on a sound stage and you're doing all this crazy stuff and you never know what's happening.

And it just keeps getting bigger and bigger and and more beautiful and it's just a huge ride.

So do you have a favorite word that you like to use?

Uh.

Pyow.

Oh, what what does that mean?

Pyow.

Pyow means you pyow garbage.

We got it from somebody else.

This little little kid and we're playing basketball.

He was, "Oh, you pyow.

Oh, you pyow." And we we just liked it so much that we kept it, you know, so pyow.
