Hotel Transylvania Summer Vacation movie. Where are you going on your next summer vacation?
Uh, for me, just being at home and not working is a vacation. That's pretty boring, but yeah. I mean, we go up North, Northern California to see uh my wife and I's respective families. That's that's pretty much the vacation we get right now with a young child.
Ohio! I'm 500. Yeah, I'm going to Cedar Point. I'm going to ride some roller coasters. Second guest: We're going to Hawaii. Yes, and we also go to New Mexico. My husband's family has land in New Mexico. So we're going to New Mexico too. Third guest: We just got back from Italy and France. It was like half business, half uh family vacation. And uh don't go to Europe in the summer. It is so crowded and the hotness I can deal with. The crowds, it's like crazy.
One thing you have to bring with you to the beach or on vacation. What is that? And don't say your cell phone 'cause we all say that, right?
I'm not gonna say the cell phone. I'm going to say a snack. Something you made from the cookbook? Or some kind of jerky. Third guest: Definitely a good book. A good book with I need reading glasses now. So I have to book with glasses.
What are you reading right now? Third guest: But it's a book about teenagers and like understanding them, but I can't think of the exact title, but it's written it's the author is Anthony Wolf. We all need to read a book like that. Understanding teenagers. Something like Dad, can you take me and Cheryl to the mall? It's a book like that.
Ohio, you gotta bring sunscreen. You just have to. And bug spray. Second guest: Exactly. Citronella.
What is it about this movie that keeps fans coming back and wanting more of this movie?
I think it's just people love the family. And then this is basically the family they're going out of the hotel on a cruise. So it's the family on vacation. The monsters on vacation. They're lovable, they're sweet, they're relatable. People just love to see them. Second guest: My character Wanda is a werewolf. She has 70 little baby werewolves. People love those little babies. They're so cute. Third guest: I legit am a huge fan of this franchise. And I've you know, I I haven't done very many children's children's movies. My body of work is not usually for children. And I think um I think it's because of the I've seen these movies many times. I think it's because they work because of the heart that's in that's in those relationships. Like the the you really feel the warmth between those characters. And they're very funny, but I don't even think that would work if you didn't feel that chemistry between everybody. Really hard to pull off. Especially for like character, you know, such broad big characters. It's hard to actually feel feel something.
Well, I think the characters are super fun and they're monsters and their whole sensibility is silliness, right? We don't take ourselves too seriously. We're really after the gags, the big jokes, the big joke sequences. And at the heart of it, though, there's this accessibility because it is about a family, right? And it's a weird family. And but nowadays a modern family is very different, right? And so we have something for everybody.
Do you relate to your character at all? Third guest: I do because I'm a busy mom. I have two kids. I have a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old. My 14-year-old girl is over there. My 13-year-old boy is at home. So I'm a busy mom. I like, you know, yes, I do relate. And I guess I'm a tad OCD. I mean, I I guess so. And also like, you know, there's like there is the idea of like, you know, she's got she's trying to do her job. She's got a legacy that she thinks that she has to achieve at all costs. And it's like, you know, she's and then she realizes maybe that what she thought she was brought up to believe is different than what she is in that, you know, when she's actually meet, you know, is she realizes that her gut is telling. Yeah, I'm about to give the movie away.
