Young Hollywood

Hey Young Hollywood. We're here at the opening night of the Beverly Hills Film Festival where celebrities have come out to support over 50 competing films.

Beverly Hills Film Festival

Welcome to Young Hollywood.

Young Hollywood

We're here for a friend's film, correct?

Beverly Hills Film Festival

I'm here for my friend uh Daniel Berluts film tonight.

Young Hollywood

Why do you feel it's important to promote non-studio films?

Beverly Hills Film Festival

It's absolutely vital for, you know, young creative uh directors and actors to come, you know, to get together and some would create something without necessarily needing to go through the normal channel that's uh obviously overloaded.

Guest

I always feel really VIP being at the film festival. They have the really good gritty like independent films. So I get to see them first, you know, before they get really popular and everyone knows about them. So basically I'm just here to support and see what's new.

Young Hollywood

Here with Paul Malone.

Paul Malone

Hi. How are you tonight? Pretty good. Pretty good. As the night goes on, the you know, free drinks, everything is pretty good.

Young Hollywood

What are you looking forward to in this particular film festival?

Paul Malone

Well, another drink.

Young Hollywood

Tell me what inspired this film.

Paul Malone

I stopped drinking. And I was sitting home remembering what it was like to uh when I first left home to go to New York to become an actor. And I started writing this little story about this kid from Boston who goes to New York. And uh I got a job working at a bar. There was a whole cut in the city who robbed the bar. And they gave me the job to guard the hole. And I I thought, well, a hole is such a great meaning because we all have this hole in us. We try to fill it with, you know, drugs, alcohol, sex, food, candy, sweets. And I use that as a metaphor for all of us. And I had the kid come to New York, he breaks into the into the bar. And I found Steve uh at a party. I said, that's the that's the pretty-looking kid. And uh that's the way I used to look. He's playing me.

Young Hollywood

Here with Steven McQueen. You have an interesting story about how you were discovered. You tell us about that?

Steven McQueen

Well, I was at uh the ICM party and Paul came up to me and I thought he was some weird guy trying to talk to me. I don't know. Anyway, so I kind of just gave him my agent's name. He ended up calling my agent and it ended up being a real project which was great. So there actually is a hope of having that uh weird discovery thing happen.

Steven McQueen

I'm Steven McQueen and you're watching Young Hollywood.
