Hi, I'm Matthew Perry and you are watching Young Hollywood and uh we're at the beach. because there's sand. there's sand.
Nicky Novak here for Young Hollywood on Venice Beach on the set of Matthew Perry's Go On with special guest star, Misty May-Treanor. Matthew looks very comfortable with that. I I are we making you work too hard here at Young Hollywood? I mean, shouldn't you the interviewer have to hold the
Well, you are the sports caster. You should be in the show. You should be quite adapt at this at this point.
Okay. All right. You look very comfortable.
I do?
Yes. You look right at home holding the the mic flag. Uh how are you? How are you today?
I'm fabulous. I'm doing great. Thank you for inviting us out on set here of your fabulous hit show. Go On.
Thank you.
Allison Miller on the set of Go On. This is a nice little set that you have.
Yeah, they built it. They built it today.
Did they? It's so lifelike. It's almost like a real beach. I would never have known that it was fake. It was a lot of sand. Are you a beach girl? Are you
I'm not really.
Really?
I'm not much of a.
That's why you have good skin. Because you avoid the sun.
Yeah, that's my mom says, shun the sun.
I hope you didn't you weren't race shunning sports because the show is so sports-centric.
Yeah. I'm all I'm all about some sports. I play some beach volleyball, too.
Do you?
I'm very bad.
Have you played with Misty yet?
No, it's not going to happen. Be too nerve-wracking. That would be just, yeah.
Misty May-Treanor, three-time Olympic gold medalist. Woo! And now you're in retirement. And this is how this is your retirement, shooting on the set of Go On. Is it fun?
Yeah. I love it.
Three gold medals. Unbelievable. So, how are you now enjoying your retirement?
You know, I'm enjoying being home, being a wife. I get to see my husband. The four seasons in Maui. My husband and I just got back and it was the most relaxing trip that we've had.
And were you doing some reading? I read on your Twitter.
I was doing some reading. Um, 50 Shades, you know, Gray. Finally got to catch up on it. Got to catch up on it. I finished the third book of The Hunger Games. So, then I was like, okay, next book I got to move on to is 50 Shades. Everybody's talking about it. Finished the first book. So, you know, you can't leave the second and third just out there.
No, you can't. You have to finish the trilogy.
I have to finish it. And I'd read by the pool and hear the waves crashing in the background and it was it was great.
Okay, now I'm a little disappointed that you're not wearing your bikini because all the female volleyball players have, you know, the the bikini bottoms. Is it ever appropriate for a man to wear Speedos?
No.
Ever.
No.
Doesn't matter, even if it's like David Beckham, possibly doing a guest star on your show?
No. I don't think that that's okay even for him.
Really?
Yeah.
Not even for Beck.
No, I don't think so.
What are your three essentials that you would bring to a beach with you if you were like stranded somewhere on a beach?
Okay, number one, sunscreen. Number two, a nice collection of short stories. Cuz a full novel, it's not gonna happen when you're on the beach. Number three, how about a bathing suit? Just in case you might actually get in the water.
As long as you're not on camera.
Yeah.
Beach essentials where you have to have your nice suntan lotion. Okay, you're lotioning up. This is good. And uh, just a blow-up doll.
blow-up doll?
Yeah. Okay. One that like a raft that doubles as a raft. That's what I mean. Yeah. This is a very fun day. We're playing beach volleyball. Can you do you think that you could do a little volley action and a little interview at the same time?
Well, don't You look fright I'm not I'm gonna volley. Okay, ready? Yeah. Yeah, that's good. How'd I do?
Pretty good. Tips?
Uh go talk to Misty May-Treanor.
So, shooting with Matthew. Have you seen his volleyball skills yet?
I have not seen his volleyball skills yet, but I have a couple um spies that do play volleyball with him. They said he hasn't been out in a while but I hear he gets out there and plays. Okay. You know, so I'm excited to see it.
Now, are you going to give him some tips? Are you going to give him some sort of on the court?
I don't want to push tips on him, but if he asks me like off camera, hey, what can I do? I'll be I'll be happy to share.
You'll be there. I'm sure he would be happy to hear to hear from you a few tips.
I have asked.
Have you asked? Have you have you begged?
Uh, the trouble is when you do on this show that I'm doing called Go On, that's such a hit, that's such a just gigantic hit. We have athletes come on all the time and they're all good. Like they're all good actors. Jeremy Roenick was hilarious.
And he checked you into the boards, didn't he? He did a little face plant.
He was supposed to miss me. He was supposed to just like sort of graze my shoulder. Bang, right into the boards.
So, we were talking about the other guest stars, possibly. Jimmy Connors? Oh, yeah. Uh, that Are we gonna have a trifecta? Are we gonna have a little Backs, a little Jimmy Connors, a little Wayne Gretzky?
Jimmy Connors was kind enough to come on Mr. Sunshine. And I I think I'm gonna ask him to come on this as well. And uh let's see if he does it. Let's see if he does it. If he's learned his lesson, he'll stay away.
Who are you a big fan of? Like what other sports, what other athletes are you a fan of?
Um, I love track and I played soccer. Obviously, track. Usain Bolt is crazy amazing. Yeah. I know Kobe Bryant's I think daughter plays volleyball. He was talking. So maybe you can get a little basketball lesson for a volleyball lesson.
Sure. Well, I really liked having my picture taken with Chris Bosh. I'm a basketball fan and it was also just really funny because I came up to his belly button.
So you're Matthew's assistant.
Yeah.
And you get put in all these kind of crazy scenarios. He's a good boss, basically. He has a good heart. Sure. But, you know, you have to work late because he gets lonely. And shooting this episode, I I heard that he is it's kind of like his foray back into the dating world.
Yeah, this episode he's trying to get out there and meet some women. Um, he tried it in the last episode and it did not it didn't end up happening, but now
Is that why he brought you today to sort of help him out?
I'm sure. Because when he I I know that I'm his wing lady because when you have a girl around, people think you're safe and okay. Yes.
So, in this episode, he's sort of getting back out into the dating world. And you
I'm one of his friends on Facebook. He comes to one of our training sessions and I'm introducing him to my volleyball training.
What a nice friend you are.
But you know, it's an introduction for him to get out there.
Misty is is bringing you out to meet some of her friends.
Helping me out. Yes. We have uh very carefully negotiated this with the character where, you know, obviously because of what happened to him, he's there's no romantic story lines. Yes. Um and now we're, you know, episode 10 or 11 and we're just venturing into that territory. Real life.
Three pieces of dating advice to give to a guy. To a guy? Yeah. Where do guys go wrong?
I don't know. I don't date. I would say, don't try to pick girls up in bars. That's not gonna work. Get someone you know to introduce you. That's gonna work out much better.
Because then they know the guy.
Yeah, yeah. It's much it doesn't feel so lecherous or creepy. They know the situation. Yeah. I don't know. Sometimes guys in the gym freak me out. I'm married, but you know, it's like there's not a lot of women in the free weight area, so they like gawk over, you know, the the women and it's just kind of like keep lifting. If we're interested, we'll come to you. We'll come to you. We'll let you know. You tell me.
So where is it okay for a guy to sort of hit on you?
Listen, I think it all depends on the person, doesn't it? It really there is no bad place if it's the right person, but there is no good place if it's the wrong person.
That's very good.
Is that good?
Yeah, that's really good. I mean, it didn't really give me any information, but it makes sense.
Yeah. If a girl
No, I need to know. Hit on me at uh like a hot dog stand. Yes, is that okay with you?
That's fine.
That works for you. Is there any place that doesn't work?
Hamburger stand.
Hamburger stands are off limits. Yeah. Okay, got it.
