Young Hollywood

When did you start?

Jo Koy

I started 14 years ago.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, I know you were talking to the camera kind of acting shy. Do you still get the butterflies?

Jo Koy

No, no, not at all. Like if anything, I get excited like let's do this. If I see a stage and a mic, I'm like, I don't care. Like 15 minutes, I want 20. I want to make 25. Yeah, exactly. When you want the light never. Women are tougher than you. Anything that you do. Women have to be What? Are you serious? When I saw that, I was I tapped the out. I was like. To real life, I'm like, ah. When you start to do stand-up, you you concentrate so much on writing jokes. Oh, I got to write right. But the best stuff is from real life. Yeah, man. Like just my son, he just gives me material. Like literally you saw me tonight. That was a real story. My son was 8 pounds, 6 ounces. When he came out, I'm telling you. I almost well, not not almost, I threw up in my mouth. But being a man, you gotta put that off, you know what I mean? I was like, ah.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, you started in Las Vegas. Am I right?

Jo Koy

Young Hollywood

For all the aspiring comics watching this, you bombed, what made you grab your cojones and get back on stage, get back on the horse and do it again?

Jo Koy

The passion, you know what I mean? Like I want to be a comic. Like as long as you just keep that in the back of your head like I want to be a comic. I love the art of stand-up. You're going to pursue it. It doesn't matter how many times you bomb, you just keep saying, I'm going to get better at it.

Young Hollywood

Is there anything else you're pursuing?

Jo Koy

Well, right now I got the deal with Comedy Central. I got my own TV show, so that's what we're working on right now. The the Joe Koy sketch comedy show. Pretty exciting.
