When you think of Marlo Thomas, what comes to mind? That girl, her marriage to Phil Donahue, the free to be you and me TV specials which helped millions of kids including this one get through childhood. Well, ever since I learned of the work she does with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, when I think of Marlo Thomas, I think of kids. Smiling, happy, healthy kids. When St. Jude was founded in 1962, the survival rate for acute lymphoblastic leukemia was 4%. Today that number is 86%. Thanks largely to the work done at St. Jude. Talk about making a difference. In 2002, Marlo published a book called The Right Words at the Right Time, the proceeds of which went to St. Jude. So the next time you think of Marlo Thomas, you can think of her acting and her husband and that fabulous Ann Marie hair flip. But also think of her heart and think of all the individuals whose lives are changed forever. I am so honored tonight to present the Young Hollywood Heart Humanitarian Award to the endlessly inspiring Marlo Thomas.

It's been great to be here tonight with the Young Hollywood. And I uh I know you're all going to have great, great careers and you too will have a chance someday to take the spotlight that's on you and shine it on something that you care about. And that is a great gift that your careers will give you. It's uh it's lovely to receive the Hollywood Heart Award because it was the big heart of Hollywood that really started St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. My father's buddies, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope and George Burns and even Elvis, all helped him raise those first funds. And today a lot of the young Hollywood is continuing that tradition of giving their heart to St. Jude. Jennifer Aniston and Sarah Jessica Parker, Antonio Banderas. That's a reward that I certainly think I deserve spending the whole day with Antonio Banderas.
