Welcome to YoungHollywood. com.
Hi, Young Hollywood.
I'm here with Kate Earl. So you've had kind of an exciting journey. You came from Alaska, and you were raised working in a gas station. Can you tell us a little bit about your journey from getting there to coming to Hollywood and what that really meant to you?
I stopped through Santa Barbara for a couple years. I was a Philosophy and Music major and slowly went to do shows in LA and hit the road with a little demo, and I ended up getting an indie deal.
How would you explain your sound?
I usually say soulful pop. Pop to me is music that reaches a lot of people and I want to get out to as many as I can and have messages that are accessible and that people identify with.
Now, in your most recent EP, Introducing Kate Earl, you have a couple really great songs. One of them is "Melody". And I know that I'm never alone, and I know that my heart is my home. Every missing piece of me I can find in a melody. I can find in a melody.
"Melody" is about music's power to change your mood or remind you of who you are or what you're missing, inspiration, or healing. It's I just wanted to talk about that in that song.
You have another one, "All In One", which is giving "Melody" a run for its money, and people are really responding well to that.
Yes, that one is basically my my goal as as a songwriter, as an artist, as a performer, to give away this good feeling, this wholeness. I hope that my work inspires people in their life.
And one of the spots in LA that you love to perform is Hotel Cafe, which is right behind us. Can you tell us why you love performing there?
It was where I got my start. I sometimes lose track of time when I'm out there. Sometimes I feel like I'm out of my body. I think that that experience is just so powerful. I love the power of music. That's why I'm here, that's why I do what I do. I just really think it's a musical family atmosphere, and I just come home whenever I play there.
What advice would you have to aspiring musicians in Young Hollywood today, trying to make it in this industry?
Get lost in the music and, um, really the question is, how stubborn are you?
I notice that you love vlogging. You're very, you know, tech-savvy when it comes to your website, you've got KateEarl. com. What do you love about your online presence and reaching out to the fans that way?
I really like that I'm able to be close to my fans, no matter where they are in the world, give them the opportunity to get to know me.
What type of fun things have you Twittered about lately?
I was Twittering about being up on top of this high point in Sedona called Cathedral Rock and I felt alive.
