My name is Moses Storm and I'm an artist. Many of you know me from my last piece entitled 'Terminally Chill Birthday' wherein I held my birthday at the Los Angeles International Airport. My next piece is entitled The Modern Millennial. The Modern Millennial is performance art meets immersive theater. Spectators will get an uncensored look at the modern-day millennial in the modern condition.
So talk to me a little bit about sort of the Subway's involvement, um, in supporting it, because they've supported you throughout.
It's definitely, um, a new idea and a new project and Subway has really taken a chance on me. First things first, orientation. You see tomatoes, slice. Any questions so far? Yes, I actually. No questions, great decision. Now, let's head back, get you a precious hat, and maybe even a shirt depending on your attitude. What about pants? You workin' or sh-shoppin' here? Okay, you need to earn pants. The The. And they were so supportive from day one. And, uh, they said, "Okay, you have a very thin idea here, but we believe in you and and go for it."
So I guess the idea tonight is they're gonna Subway's gonna feed 100 fresh artists. Yeah. And it's said, I'm gonna read this, like, all you have to do is bring an instrument, a canvas, a camera, a clay, a dance, a poem, or a joke.
Yeah. So when people come in, on this table here, this is their first really instruction. What's this building? Okay. So everyone has to take a card and put a lab coat on. So once you take your first card there, what you're doing? Do what, Tanya? It says, ask a stranger to take a selfie on their phone. That will not be a problem. Wow. This is 35 individual iPhones at once.
Which generation is this?
This is the iPhone 4S.
Okay. Cause if it was a 6, it'd be gone. It'd be gone. This pillar would be gone.
Yeah. Yeah. But no one wants a 4S. You use that one quick. In fact, I might take them and stash them in my lab coat. Oh, this is kind of like, you know, a vending machine for all the worst items. It reminds you of a specific relationship with someone where it's like, it's good for you. It feels good, but it's definitely not good for you. Right. Right. And that's what this is. You can't, this never opens. You can never open this. Makes you want it more, doesn't it? Right. Throw one or add one. Yeah. So you can really choose. Do you wanna just help this along? Be part of the crowd or do you want to create anarchy? Like I really wanna chuck it. Hey, no pressure. But hey, you wanna be nice? You wanna throw it at your camera guy? Maybe there's like a little hostility there. Can you get it in one shot? Can you get it? Ooh. Ooh. Wow.
So should we be serious for this part?
Yes. This is, you're in a very serious zone. I don't know, that sounds serious enough. Since this is open 24/7, people see me constantly. Yeah. So, this is the one place where no one can see me.
You go underneath here?
Do I? Stop it right now. Do I go underneath here? Stop it. Right. I just need a moment, Nikki. There's just, it's just too much, Nikki. I can't take it. There's just too many questions, Nikki. You're too good at this. This is magical. In a sense. No way. This is like Tinder. Yeah. This is exactly like Tinder. I like you.
Mm-hm.
That scares you, don't it? It actually did. It did. Um, this is basically my relationship with relationships represented in a machine. So, and a lot of, I think a lot of millennials can identify with this. Yeah. You like the person you like the most is the person that doesn't like you. Right. And this is your bed and people, this is where you sleep.
Yeah, you don't have to sleep. And people come in and watch you.
People watch me sleep sometimes or just admire the original selfie, the self-portrait. That's
What does that mean? The original selfie?
Um, self-portrait. So before we had phones to take selfies, artists would sometimes paint themselves. So that was the original selfie. This is really cool. Um, this is actually our Tinder tent. So People swipe. One of those cards that you you walked in, one of those cards says like Tinder in the tent. So you can go through, swipe left, swipe right. And a lot of Tinder dates have actually happened in here.
Are you serious?
Yeah. There's morphing happening. Yeah. These faces are morphing to fill out the job. Now, who are these people? Oh, look at that. You got a little shadow puppet going in there. Oh. Hello. We're we're we're we're we're Hey. The amount of puppet shows that happened in here is astronomical. That's a good one. Wait, everybody, girls do this now. This is the the selfie one. This is it. Stop it. Love you. And you got to kiss through it.
Thanks for the tour. Do you want to give Subway a special thank you?
Yes. Subway, special thank you. Come in Subway. Is your hug. Oh, that's good. What does Subway hug feel like? Oh, that smells like a fresh oven baked Nacho Badda, they love it. Italian herb and cheese bread and oh, what's that? You gooey cookie oven fresh shoulder Subway. You can leave. Oh, this is great Subway. Thank you. You be alone with your sandwich.
