Surprise! It's Subway's 47th birthday and Young Hollywood is celebrating with Nastia Liukin.

How do I look in this hat?

Amazing.

You said it earlier, you were wearing this hat making sandwiches.

I was. And I did like the whole footlong, a turkey with vegetables and everything. It was a healthy one.

Is that your signature sandwich?

Yeah, yeah, turkey, well, a 6-inch turkey, a little bit of cheese, some banana peppers and cucumbers.

And have you named it?

The Liukin.

I would have called it the pink.

The pink.

The pink gymnast. This doesn't really go with your like trademark. We need we needed some pink party hats. Mix it up a little bit. So, do you ever mix up the sandwich or do you always sort of get the same thing?

No, I'm like the plain Jane. I always stick to the same thing.

And how are the sandwich making skills?

I was really slow. I was holding up the whole entire line. There was a line forming and I just almost like said never mind.

So we're just coming off the Olympics. Ally Raisman was just in our studio. She talked about how she's always wanted to do a Subway commercial because of you. How much fun are they to shoot?

Oh, it's so much fun. You know, it's fun being with all the other athletes too. The last one I did was with Blake Griffin and um obviously, huge height difference with a gymnast and a basketball player, but it's fun being able to meet the other athletes and you know, I've always said it's like with athletes, you just have like a common bond because you understand like um, you know, just the amount of training that it goes into to even trying to make an Olympic team or um, you know, make an all-star game, whatever sport that you're in. So, uh, it's a lot of fun.

Well, I like that they call this a sub-prise birthday bash for Subway. Sub-prise. What's the most surprised you were ever in your career?

Probably like maybe at trials, at Olympic trials when I fell off the bars and landed on my face. Yeah, that was probably a surprising moment.

I think it would be I think people were surprised too, but people don't sort of see all the years of training that goes into it, and you probably have a lot of moments like that when you're training. How do you sort of get over like how do you how are you so brave? Because the vault especially scares the heck out of me. I hate the vault.

That was always my least favorite. Like running 80 feet towards like just an object and you're like, oh, please let me land on my feet. That was my least favorite.

So when you are vaulting at that speed, do you see things in real-time or do things slow down? Do you has I know you sort of pick your marks and

Yeah, I think it slows down a little bit. I'm personally like I found that I hold my breath the whole time and so then when you land, you're like, oh my God, like I was I'm out of breath but you only run like 80 feet, but things like that. I guess you hold your breath during certain skills. Um, and it does seem very slow. Like you're like, when is this routine going to be over? When can I just land on the ground? But then once you're on the ground, it feels like it was like so fast.

And I know you're a Subway famous fan. Who are you a fan of? Like in in athletics? Who are you the biggest fan of?

You know, I think just what Michael Phelps did at this Olympics, not just this Olympics, but throughout his entire career was absolutely amazing and it just proved that, you know, especially after success in Beijing winning eight gold medals, like you can still set new goals and new dreams for yourself and um, you know, it was just it was really amazing. I got to watch some of his races in London and so it was just fun to be able to be a a real fan and just appreciate like how much hard work goes into it and and even after you achieve your ultimate dreams and goals, you can still set new goals for yourself. And so, um what he did was um really um inspiring, I think, to so many people.

Okay, so get creative with me for a second, cuz I always get the turkey too. Yes. Be creative, what should I get next time? I can do a footlong, by the way.

I like the flatbread. Um, and then you can get it toasted too. So with a little bit of cheese and some turkey on the flatbread.

Have you done the breakfast sandwiches?

I haven't tried them yet.

I have.

Yeah, they're really good and like they're good because you can just take them on the go and especially like with me I'm always on the go um, in between training and traveling so much and and especially Subway being everywhere. Like literally everywhere like when we were in London too. There's like always a Subway somewhere.

Well, I thought Ally said that Kate Middleton loved the team style, the uniforms, the makeup. Are you into that? Are you into trends? Like how do you sort of set trends like on the floor and look good?

Well, it's so hard. Um, you know, I focused on the gymnastics. You are, but you know, for when we compete for the country, we don't design or really get too much of a say, but um I love the leotards this time. I thought all the rhinestones were perfect, um, very Olympic. Um, but when we compete like for our clubs and like um at home, I've designed all my own leotards since I was 12. So, I've always loved to do that and um, I love fashion and um, hopefully I'll be going to fashion week in a few weeks. So, I love that.
