Young Hollywood

What is one thing super simple, inexpensive that people can do to make a positive impact on the world?

Ian Somerhalder

Oh my goodness. There's a ton of things. Things like turning your lights off. Yeah. Turn your turn your TV off when you leave. Right. The cats don't need to watch TV. We waste 602 million gallons a day in the United States of America of people leaving the water on when you brush your teeth. Yeah. We're just used to hearing that sound. Yeah. Turn it off. Think about that.

Young Hollywood

And and how are you involved in the water project? How did you get involved?

Ian Somerhalder

Well, Katerina Graham and I are extremely close, never to the fact that we spent the last two and a half years working together on the show and um this organization that she's created and what we're doing is all about collaboration. It's collaborative spirit of these organizations coming together to make progress.

Young Hollywood

Miss Kat Graham, how did you get involved in the water project charity?

Kat Graham

Um I think it was just fate. You know, I woke up one morning and I wanted to build a well and I got all my fans and friends to donate and within a couple months we had a well built in Uganda at the Raconne School. And um after that, I just it wasn't enough. I want I knew that I could I could do more. Right. Um and I just wanted to prove to myself that I could.

Young Hollywood

What is a statistic that you've heard through working with charities like this that really stuck with you?

Kat Graham

I mean, I think I read 8 million people are going without water every day.

Ian Somerhalder

1 billion.

Kat Graham

1 billion. That's insane.

Ian Somerhalder

1 billion.

Young Hollywood

Are you looking forward to seeing anyone tonight? Cuz I know you've got a ton of friends that are out here to support you.

Kat Graham

At the end of the day, you know, no one has to be here. You know what I mean? Anyone that's here is just so kind to just be here. You, pearl, you, you know, anyone that's here. I'm so grateful. You know, Ian Somerhalder him joining me in this was such a massive thing for me. Nina Dobrev who really is my best friend and who supports me endlessly. Um them here as as my friends and people I work with every day.

Young Hollywood

How did you get involved in the water project?

Guest

Um I'm just invited uh through some mutual friends here. Um but I I actually have a very strong connection to it. Uh I uh was just in Kenya two weeks ago doing a movie called A Chance of Rain. And that movie is all about a a water activist, um which is my my character. So we were over there out in the villages, um building some wells and uh just basically getting some footage out there.

Young Hollywood

What is one thing super simple, super inexpensive that the people watching can do to make the world a better place?

Guest

Well, I mean, since we're talking about water, any anything like that. It's, you know, turn off the water when you're not using it. Um, you know, cut your showers a little shorter. Don't fill up the bathtub so high. Just like things like that. I mean, um anything to kind of conserve, I mean, the same with energy. Turn the lights off. It's very simple stuff really. Um that anybody can do. But um it's it's pretty incredible to be over there and and see the suffering that that they're going through and then we, you know, coming back here and we have we have it so good. So, I think um you know, it's just something that we all need to be aware of that there are so many people suffering and we are so blessed to have what we have.

Young Hollywood

What's the best gift you've ever given in the spirit of the holidays and charity?

Guest

Oh, man. Um I don't know. I don't know. You mean like like for a friend or something or a family member? Um Maybe it's just a hug. Maybe Kinsey needs a hug. And she likes you on 90210. Maybe that's the best gift.

Young Hollywood

Everybody likes a hug.

Guest

It's true. I mean, you know, hugs are good.

Young Hollywood

Is it weird that when I saw you, in my head, I went

Guest

Well, I'll tell you why it is weird because that's not our theme song anymore.

Young Hollywood

I know, but you are you are you are like the next Dylan McKay, though. You're far and beyond.

Guest

All right. Well, I'll take it.
