Welcome to Young Hollywood. What's up guys? Leslie Robbins here for Young Hollywood. Today we are discussing celebrity fashion. I have fashion expert Laurie from beyondtherack. com and our very fashion forward actress Katie LaClaire. Alright, so you're the star of ABC family Switched at Birth. Tell me, what's your character style like? Do you have any similarities to what she gets to wear?
My character wears a lot of girly sort of like frilly, lots of lilac, lots of um, you know, cardigans and sweaters and very covered up and um, she also plays basketball so she's got a little bit of athletic thing going on but her personality is a little bit more tomboy than her wardrobe might suggest. So it kind of balances out, it makes it kind of fun.
Yes, you were saying you're kind of finding your groove with what you like. What do you like when it comes to clothes?
Um, I look for comfort first and foremost. Um, I love color, I love pockets, I love um, patterns and stripes and um, I think just variety is the spice of life and you can never have too many clothes, right?
So, obviously, we all don't have hours and hours to go shopping at a store. One click away, beyondtherack. com. How can we find a pair of jeans that Katie wears on the red carpet?
Well, first and foremost, beyondtherack has an incredible blog where we cover all the latest events in Hollywood. If you are looking to see what your favorite celebrities were wearing at the Emmys or the Golden Globes, you go to our blog and we'll usually show you all the best looks and how you can get them for less at Beyond the Rack.
You were nominated for a Teen Choice Award this year as well as your show. What was that nomination like?
It was incredible. I was just so excited to be able to attend the award show and then after I found out that I was nominated and the show was nominated and it was just a really great night.
Alright, we have to talk about your red carpet look. What did you wear? How'd you find it?
I wore a BCBG dress, um, and it was um, sort of like rose and gray tones and I had my hair in a ponytail with like the little foofy thing and um, uh, it was really great. I I found it through a stylist. She was very helpful and it's it's really great to sort of have someone who you feel confident in to guide you. And they'll they'll be able to lead you to take risks and not look stupid at the same time. So, even if that's your best friend you always, you know, have that buddy to sort of style up with.
Now, you mentioned stylist. You must work with lots of stylist at Beyond the Rack.
We do. We have some great stylists who put the looks together every single day. You know, we take hundreds and hundreds and thousands of pictures every single week.
Alright, let's talk about your character on the show. Your character is deaf and you are hard of hearing. When did you become hard of hearing in your real life?
Well, it's actually kind of a funny story. I um, took sign language as an elective in high school and I was 17 at that time. And when I was 20, I was working on a film project and they needed footage of someone testing their hearing. So, I volunteered and I found out uh, through that and a few other tests that I have something called Meniere's disease. And that was at the age of 20. So, I already knew sign language and then I found out I had this Meniere's disease thing and then at 24, I got to play a deaf character on national television. It's just an amazing feeling to know that, you know, we really can make a difference with our show and really create some tolerance within the deaf and hearing worlds and um, you know, really use our powers for good.
Well, speaking of making good out of something. Let's try on some clothes and see what we can come up with and create some celebrity styles. Get this outfit!
Okay. So here we have Leslie and I put her in an entire Beyond the Rack look. It's a great weekend look that we're seeing a ton of celebrities in right now. You know, you could go shopping, you could go for lunch, and it could take you all the way to dinner time. Here we have a very, very fall style up and coming look.
Alright, Katie you and I live in L. A. and this is very fall, but we don't have seasons here. How do you manage your clothing around living in L. A. cuz I know it's quite difficult for me.
You just have to wear layers. You have to, you know, keep an extra jacket in your car at all times and you know, right next to your extra pair of heels in case you need them at all times.
Alright, this outfit seems so hip and cool. And the funny thing is, we're shooting at the Sunrise Brand showroom in downtown L. A. This outfit feels very downtown L. A. So downtown L. A. Well, I think you're on a red carpet way more than I am. So I want to put you in some outfits right now. Okay. Katie is now wearing the red carpet look and you look amazing. And every girl needs a pair of Jimmy Choos at one point in their life, I think. Alright, Katie this seems so sweet on you.
Yeah, it's it's really like soft colors and just sort of subdued and um, the inside is like silky so it's really nice on your skin and just wedge sandals are always welcome cuz they're so much easier to walk in and I'm really comfortable.
You look adorable and yummy and so comfortable.
So comfy. And it's uh, you know, relaxed and when the pressure's off and you get to just chill and, you know, you gotta run an errand or home or something like that. You can go out and feel like you're still stylish.
This is Katie LaClaire. I'm a fashionista in the making and you're watching Young Hollywood.
