Fashion Do's and Don'ts with Karen Zambos

I am a big fan of layering pieces. Yeah. I I feel like it elongates you, makes you look taller. Everybody likes to look taller and thinner.

Welcome to Young Hollywood. What's up, guys? Leslie Robbins here for Young Hollywood. Now, through this door is the showroom to celebrity designer Karen Zambos. Let's go check it out. Now, tell me, how did you find this space? This is quite amazing. You almost have an entire floor of a downtown building.

It was funny. I was actually looking for a tiny little space to move everything out of my house. I went to see the landlord or and he goes, you know, I'm just going to show you this place upstairs. He brought me up here and I was like, this is it.

Now, it's an amazing space, and we are in the fashion district of Los Angeles. What's it like being in that hub?

Everything is local. So, instead of like living in Hollywood, you don't have to drive 30 minutes.

The expert you are, give me some universal fashion tips, because I need them, everybody needs them.

If you're a petite person, don't wear something that's too long. You know, the the longer length skirts are in right now, but not everybody can wear that. Know if you can wear that length. You know, like, if you're petite, you're not going to be able to get away with that. Heavier set people probably shouldn't belt things. I am a big fan of layering pieces. Yeah. You know, whether it's a skinny jean, a longer T-shirt or camisole, and then something over it. It I feel like it elongates you. Makes you look taller. Everybody likes to look taller and thinner.

I can say I know of many celebrities that love you that wear Karen Zambos. We have the Kardashian sisters, Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton. I mean, who else have you dressed?

Candace Cameron, Makey Kelly, Tory Spelling is a big fan. Halle Berry, and uh Jessica Alba was just shot in one of my stripe tank tops, my ankle tank top while she's pregnant.

So you show me some of the pieces that they wore and I'm going to try them on.

This is super sparkly. Eliza Dushku wore this to some kind of book signing party. This is one of the dresses that I bring back every season. Tory Spelling actually wore this um to a premiere while she was pregnant. I handmade this for Marishka Hargate when she went on The Jay Leno Show. It was a lot of fun.

So who wore this?

This uh Constan Zimmar wore this. And uh it's from my holiday collection. So it's not even out. Oh, you show up in this and you are the party.

So Karen, tell me what inspires you.

Nature. You can find so many different colors and um textures and all that in nature. I think it's amazing. Talk about from start to finish. I'm so inspired by vintage. I'll go find vintage clothing, and then I'll change it up. And I'm very, very lucky that my pattern maker is next door. And so I will I'll just go over there and I'll be like, listen, this is what I want to do. I want to change this, make this this big, and give him all the dimensions, and he poop he makes the pattern. That's kind of how it happens.

What makes your clothing, your designs, your couture stand out amongst the rest?

I've never been one to follow a trend. I really design for what I love, and what I feel good in. And if I feel good in it, I know everybody else will. A lot of people don't know how to dress, and if they can slip it on and feel good, you win.
