Real Talk: There is not a song on Selena Gomez’s new album, Revival, that we don’t like. She absolutely NAILED IT with this album! One reason why we love this album so much is that it really speaks to people and real life situations. We got to show this album some love and give it the track by track treatment!
1. “Revival”
This was a great way to start the album. This track definitely sets up the rest of the album and creates a nice tone. It’s a new chapter in Selena’s life, and this album really is her "revival".
Fave Lyric: “I feel like I've awakened lately / The chains around me are finally breaking.”
2. “Kill Em With Kindness”
Now, I’m a big fan of this song and this motto. It’s the best way to handle a situation when “the world can be a nasty place.” Being the best possible you everyday is what people strive for. Selena puts that into perspective with this track.
Fave Lyric:“ And no world and anger was ever won / Put down the fight before igniting / Let's time your fighting.”
3. “Hands To Myself”
This sexy song shows Selena’s maturity and we love it.
Fave Lyric: “Can't keep my hands to myself / No matter how hard I'm trying to.”
4. “Same Old Love”
This song is definitely one of my favorites off the album. Everyone goes through hard relationships, and it’s difficult going through similar situations over and over again. Well said, Selena!
Fave Lyric: “You can't take back what you said, I know / I've heard it all before at least a million times.”
5. “Sober”
“Sober” speaks for itself. It’s tough situation to be in for anyone and it creates a picture of what is being said.
Fave Lyric: “We fall for each other at the wrong time / Only for a moment, but I don't mind.”
6. “Good For You” (ft. A$AP Rocky)
“Good For You” is a very empowering track. I think that everyone wants to look good for the one they love and this song embodies that. It’s also about being confident, which is a great message for young people today.
Fave Lyric: “I'm on my Marquise diamonds / I'm a Marquise diamond / Could even make that Tiffany jealous, mmm.”
7. “Camouflage”
Everyone needs a great ballad on their album, and this is Selena’s. I love that the song is really broken down and raw.
Fave Lyric: “But I can't help feeling like I'm camouflaged / Fortress around my heart / You were mine just yesterday / Now I have no idea who you are.”
8. “Me & the Rhythm”
I don’t know about you, but this song definitely puts you in the right mood to have a good time and get on the dance floor. A great way to get the party started!
Fave Lyric: “Ooh, the rhythm takes you over / Takes you to a different place / A different space.”
9. “Survivors”
It’s all about the trials and tribulations in relationships. This song captures getting past all of that.
Fave Lyric: “You built me from a broken heart / With bricks you made from broken parts / You fixed the paints so we could start / So now what's mine is ours.”
10. “Body Heat”
It’s getting hot in here, with a dash of sass. Whew! [fanning self]
Fave Lyric: “We're connected by the sun / And all of the stars above.”
11. “Rise”
The background instrumentals on this track are fantastic. It’s also a very chill song, which sets a great vibe for rising above any situation in your life. There are great messages throughout this album and I’m LOVING it!
Fave Lyric: “You can stand beside the madness like a fallen tear / You can hold on to the sadness like a souvenir.”
12. “Me & My Girls”
What a great song for a night out with the #squad! Nothing is more important in a woman's life than her BFFs!
Fave Lyric: “The night is dark but the moon is bright / We're staring at this summer night.”
13. “Nobody”
There are no words to describe how great this song is. So simple, yet complex in the best way.
Fave Lyric: “No one compares, could ever begin to love me like you do / I wouldn't want them to.”
14. “Perfect”
The beginning of this song reminds me a lot of Mary J. Blige’s, “No More Drama”. That soul sound bleeds through on this song, which is incredible. It’s always a treat when artists can blend different genres into their original sound.
Fave Lyric: “I can feel the distance every time you remember her fingertips / Maybe I should be more like her.”
This album is Selena’s best piece of work musically. The lyrics really do come from a genuine place. This allows the audience to have a real connection with the music. Hats off to Ms. Gomez!
