Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, & More To Co-Chair the 2021 Met Gala!

Written by Julie Fenske. Published: May 05 2021

After two postponements, the Met Gala is back, and the fashion world is celebrating big time! We’ve missed the anticipation of the red carpet, getting to see who truly understands the theme, and which celebs will get the opportunity to co-chair the event!

The long-awaited theme has been announced: “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”. A smaller event will take place on September 13, the official Met Gala for 2021, but the theme will continue on into 2022, where the iconic celebration of fashion will finally return to the first Monday in May. Arguably the most exciting aspect of this year is finding out the co-chairs, and this lineup is as impressive as it gets. Below, get all the info on who will be leading us into fashion’s biggest night.

Timothée Chalamet

The actor, beloved for his talent and red-carpet style over the past few years, has been selected as a co-chair. While he’s never attended a Met Gala before, we’re certain that his risk-taking fashion, like his memorable Golden Globes harness look, will make a splash!

Billie Eilish

On the heels of her album announcement and British Vogue cover, Billie continues her streak with the news that she’ll be a co-chair! At just 19, she’s been awarded with Grammys and worked closely with top designers like Alessandro Michele of Gucci, and we can’t wait to see how she’ll interpret this theme.

Amanda Gorman

The Youth Poet Laureate, author, and Harvard grad who delivered a powerful reading of her poem “The Hill We Climb” at President Biden’s inauguration is a natural choice for a co-chair who represents both intelligence and style. As another Met Gala first-timer, we’re looking forward to seeing what she’ll bring to the event!

Naomi Osaka

As a No. 1 ranked tennis player who defeated icon Serena Williams at the US Open, Naomi Osaka knows how to play a good game, and that extends to fashion too. At just 23, she’s already broken records, and we know she’ll bring that same winning streak to this year’s Met Gala!

Our co-chairs are all influential and powerful members of Gen-Z and the next generation of fashion and of our country. We’re eager to see how they interpret this year’s theme, and we can’t wait to see another in-person Met Gala red carpet after such a long hiatus!
