Caroline, also called “Line”, was killed in an accident on a moped, and her mother died of cancer shortly after. Her volleyball team, The West High Trojans of Iowa City, will have to learn how to cope with her death while gaining strength from her memory. We’ll have to wait and see the movie to find out if they win another state championship.
Though all hope seems to be lost after Caroline’s death, the girls’ coach, Kathy Bresnahan (played by Oscar-winner Helen Hunt), will encourage them to keep playing. In order to achieve the impossible, the team will have to pick themselves up and begin training in order to keep their winning streak. Caroline’s best friend Kelly (Erin Moriarty) will take Caroline’s spot and help the team succeed. They will do all this while honoring Caroline’s memory.
Soul Surfer director Sean McNamara brings this inspirational story to life that will show us the meaning of strength and friendship. Yes, this is a film about a group of high school girls, but what makes it different is that it focuses on them as a team and their emotional struggles as they try to use Caroline’s memory to help them heal and win their matches.
Also starring in the film are William Hurt (A History of Violence), Tiera Skovbye (“Riverdale”), Jason Gray-Stanford (“Monk”), and Rebecca Staab (“Somewhere Between”).
Save some tissues for the end of the film when real footage of the West High Trojans is shown during the credits! The Miracle Season hits theaters today (April 6)!
