"The Hills: New Beginnings": A Few New Faces, All The Same Drama!

Written by Maryssa Rillo. Published: June 25 2019

A lot can happen in 9 years. And when I say a lot, I mean life-changing things can happen in that amount of time. That’s exactly what happened on MTV’s TV show, “The Hills”. Nine years ago, “The Hills” had its season finale. This meant no more girls night watching endless cat fights, no more Speidi drama, no more Lauren & Heidi drama, no more Spencer & Everyone drama, no more screaming at the TV wondering why Lauren chose a boy over Paris, and no more combat boots at the beach.

Well, so we thought. Fast forward 9 years later, and “The Hills” is officially back. Last night (June 24), “The Hills: New Beginnings” premiered and the cast members showed us a different, new side of their adult, mature selves… kind of.

The show has all its original cast members, minus Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari. This was definitely sad to hear, but it’s okay, you can still watch Kristin on “Very Cavallari” and listen to Lauren on her podcast Asking For a Friend. There are also two new cast members: Mischa Barton and Brandon Lee. Barton, of course, is an actress who used to be on “The O.C.”, and Lee, the youngest of the cast, is the son of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. He’s only 23! I’m excited to see how he fits in with the rest of the cast.

The crew are no longer in their 20s and life isn’t just about parties, love interests, and drama. Who am I kidding, the cast may have grown up but they definitely haven’t outgrown their drama days!

Though the cast members seem to still have their drama (who doesn’t?), the season premiere was, as the title promised, all new beginnings. Audrina Patridge opened up the show and revealed just how much has changed. In the past 9 years, she was married, had a baby girl, got divorced, and moved back in with her parents. Whew, that was a lot to grasp.

Audrina seemed to be getting a good start to her new beginning, though. In the first episode, she moved into her own place and had a celebratory girl’s night with Heidi Montag and Whitney Port. Heidi and Whitney are also now moms. So, no more single girl’s night… now it’s mom’s night. Cheers to that!

Brody Jenner’s life has also done a 180° turn. The man is married…. to Kaitlynn Jenner. No, no, no, not his dad; the two just so happen to have the same name. Brody is a DJ, so he still lives the night life. This sparked an argument with him and his wife in the first episode. He came home late the night before and his wife wasn’t too happy. The argument was so bad Brody decided to sleep in his truck outside. Yikes.

Talking about love and relationship drama, remember how, in the last episode of “The Hills”, Audrina decided to move on from Justin Bobby--I mean, Justin Brescia? Well, he’s back, and the two went out for dinner in Episode 1. The connection was still there… so much that you almost felt it through the TV screen. Maybe Justin is Audrina’s one true love? So much going on and it is only the first episode!

Oh, and I almost forgot! Stephanie Pratt is back from London and is having a welcome back party. In the first episode, she seemed to be doing well but she misses her brother. This welcome back party seems to be what fuels the fire with drama. The episode ended before the party but teased what is about to go down. This is the first time Stephanie is going to see Spencer and Heidi, and Heidi does not seem thrilled. Mischa also revealed that she has issues with Perez Hilton, and Hilton is one of the guests at the party. Commercials also tease some Brody and Spencer drama.

Thanks, MTV, for giving me plans every Monday night. I guess the rest is still unwritten. Cheers to new beginnings!
