Jefferson Airplane, fronted by iron-lunged Grace Slick, was at the forefront of the psychedelic music movement that was happening in the late-'60s. With their surreal imagery and dreamlike lyrics, J.A. epitomized the battle cry at the end of their famous hit, "White Rabbit": "FEED YOUR HEAD!"
(No doubt Tim Burton was listening to that tune on loop while filming his Alice in Wonderland...)
If you're not familiar with 1960s psychedilia, get on board, kids! This is the music that inspired all your favorite artists today. Always good to appreciate your elders!
Here's Jefferson Airplane performing their two biggest hits, "White Rabbit" and "Somebody to Love," on "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" way way back in the day:
(As a side note, those of my generation (and perhaps after) will probably recognize Grace Slick as one-half of the voice behind the classic '80s tune, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," from the classic '80s Andrew McCarthy flick, Mannequin. Quite a juxtaposition, no? Heh!)
