Patrick Is a Star: Your Guide To The New "Spongebob" Spinoff!
Everyone’s favorite pink anthropomorphic starfish is getting his own television show!
That’s right ─ "The Patrick Star Show", a late-night talk show starring SpongeBob’s best friend and big-hearted sidekick, has reportedly been picked up for 13 episodes. The show will focus on Patrick and his family, with familiar characters making cameos throughout the series. The cast has begun to record lines from home, getting the ball rolling amidst the pandemic.
Patrick has never held a formal job, so fans will have fun watching him report the news and deal with his newfound responsibility. Will we learn of more snail-nappings or angry mobs outside of the Krusty Krab? Will there be more reports of Plankton’s evil schemes? Only time (and Patrick) will tell.
Although "SpongeBob SquarePants" has been running on Nickelodeon since 1999, it has never had a formal spinoff series until now. The show’s creator, Stephen Hillenberg, was against the idea, but since his passing in 2018, ideas for spinoffs have circulated. Aside from "The Patrick Star Show", another spinoff series called "Kamp Koral: Spongebob’s Under Years", is finally in the works for 2021, and will depict the Bikini Bottom gang as children at a summer camp.
There is no official release date for Patrick’s new show, and it is unclear whether it will premiere on CBS All Access, like "Kamp Koral", or on Nickelodeon. Stay tuned!
