Our 5 Favorite Celebrity Moments From Online Graduation Events!
The current worldwide situation has put graduation ceremonies for 2020 seniors online, but celebs are stepping in to add some fun! We’ve rounded up some of the best celebrity moments at virtual graduation events to motivate you and give some love to all you 2020 grads out there.
1. Oprah’s Facebook Speech
Facebook held a #Graduation2020 event with many speakers, including the QUEEN herself, Oprah Winfrey. Oprah gave a speech about resilience and strength. “All your guts and imagination, the things that got you to this moment…are the very things that are going to sustain you through whatever is coming.”
2. John Krasinski’s Graduation Ceremony
John
Krasinski’s adorable show “Some Good News” held its own
graduation, featuring speeches from Steven
Spielberg, Oprah, and others. Spielberg had some wise
words for graduates: “If we are in service of our dreams rather
than our dreams being in service of us, it becomes something
greater. It allows us to be game, it allows us to get over our
fear, and to go forward no matter what obstacles are thrown in our
path.”
3. Barack Obama’s Speech
Former President Barack Obama gave a speech to 2020 grads as part of Graduate Together, a special featuring himself, LeBron James, Megan Rapinoe, and more. He touched on many current issues and gave advice that we love. “America’s gone through tough times before... and each time, we came out stronger. Usually because a new generation, young people like you, learned from past mistakes and figured out how to make things better.”
4. Miley
Cyrus
Also as a part of Facebook’s graduation event, Miley Cyrus blessed us with the absolute BOP, “The Climb” from Hannah Montana: The Movie. The song’s message of resilience is relevant and as strong as ever, and it remains an all-time great jam.
5. Tom Hanks
Wright State received a commencement speech from Tom Hanks, and as always, he had the BEST advice to give. He called the class of 2020 the “chosen ones”, saying, “You succeeded because of the aid and the love of others that are in your life, without a doubt, but you have succeeded mostly because you alone chose to do so. You are the chosen ones.”
Congrats, Class of 2020!
