Netflix's “Shadow and Bone” Series Starring Ben Barnes Just Finished Shooting & We Can’t Wait To See The Result!
It’s official: the Shadow and Bone adaptation is coming, and we are beyond excited to see our beloved characters from the YA saga come to life!
The official Netflix Twitter account recently posted a video fully introducing the cast as they gave us very exciting news: the first season is wrapped!
But for those of you unfamiliar with the story, don’t worry -- let’s take a look at what this series has to offer.
The Shadow and Bone book trilogy is full of magic, danger, and overall epicness. As the first book synopsis goes: “Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.” (Thanks, Goodreads!).
The protagonist of the series is Alina Starkov (played by Jessie Mei Li), a girl who discovers a dormant power in her that could be the key to get rid of the darkness once and for all.
However, she is not alone on her quest: We also have Ben Barnes (Narnia: Prince Caspian, "Westworld") as her mysterious superior, aka Darkling. He will recruit her along with other people with extraordinary powers that refer to themselves as “Grisha”.

Also, our beloved heroine posted some encouraging words on her Instagram account as she was thanking the team: “From what I’ve seen already, I’m so incredibly proud to be a part of this show –it’s a bloody good one.” It’s great to see her as excited as we are -- And we are so ready to see her in action!
But here comes a little surprise – Netflix has decided to include in the series the famous duology Six of Crows, which takes place in the same universe! We will also be following the story of criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker (Freddy Carter) after “he is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams.” But Kaz’s crew is… unreliable, to say the least.
Fans are already theorising about how the two sagas will collide, but everyone is thrilled with the cast – especially author Leigh Bardugo! To be honest, it feels like a dream come true. You can meet them below:
