ICYMI: Spice Girls Set To Make An Animated Comeback!

Written by Julia Hutchens. Published: June 23 2019

I'll tell you want I want, what I really really want -- the Spice Girls in cartoon form!

For the first time since the '90s, all 5 of the original Spice Girls will be reuniting to work on a new special project, one that is utterly new territory for the iconic girl group.

President Mireille Soria of Paramount Animation is known in the industry as someone progressive when it comes to hiring women. That’s why it wasn’t all that surprising when she announced that the studio had plans to resurrect the magic of the Spice Girls. What WAS surprising was exactly how she planned to do it… by casting the girls up on the big screen.

The ANIMATED big screen that is. That’s right! Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown, Emma “Baby Spice” Bunton, Melanie “Sporty Spice” Chisholm, Geri “Ginger Spice” Halliwell, and, of course, Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham have all given approvals to their cartoon comeback in an upcoming animated film.

The project is more than just “a project” to the girls. While 4 of our beloved Spice Girls recently kicked off their world reunion tour last month in Dublin, they did so without their soul sister Victoria Beckham. Meanwhile, Posh had been taking time to work on her fashion label.

The girls are using this moment to do something new. While the film will include some of the Spice Girls’ classics, it will also introduce some new songs that they have been working on. As for the plot of the film, details have been scarce; however, we do know that the pop singers will be transformed into superheroes where they fight evil and stand up for #GRLPWR.

While a director is not yet attached, the upcoming project will be produced by '90s music mogul Simon Fuller and written by Karen McCullah and Kiwi Smith, whose other credits include Legally Blonde and The House Bunny.

We can't wait to spice up our lives once more!
