ICYMI: First Look at Ansel Elgort as Tony in Steve Spielberg's 'West Side Story'!

Mark your calendars, because on December 18, 2020, West Side Story is coming to a theatre near you. The original film, directed by Jerome Robbins and Robert Wise, was first released in 1961. Steven Spielberg is directing the new adaptation which is set to premiere in about a year-and-a-half.

Despite the success of the original film (10 Oscar wins!!!), Spielberg’s version will be based on the 1957 Broadway musical of West Side Story. Tony Kushner is the playwright and Justin Peck is the choreographer of the new film. It’s safe to say that the new West Side Story is going to contain a whole lot of singing and a whole lot of dancing, especially with the noteworthy cast.

Ansel Elgort stars as Tony with Rachel Zegler alongside as Maria. Other cast members include Ariana DeBose, Mike Faist, David Alvarez, and many other others, as well as the legendary Rita Moreno, who won an Oscar for her role as Anita in the original film. While no official trailer has been released yet, we were graced with the first photo of some of the cast members in their roles. I don’t know about you, but I’m already counting down the days until West Side Story comes out!
