Royals have stayed in the limelight for pretty much all of history, and with all the news about Harry and Meghan and the King's recent coronation, it’s clear that what people really want is some royal drama. Royalteen satisfies that itch, only make it coming-of-age. Imagine: you’re a young woman with a secret. You go to a new school to escape your shady past when lo and behold, you meet your classmate Kalle the Prince of Norway. This sets off him pursuing you, you hiding your secret, and the worst part: his sister Princess Margrethe, who wants to take you down. Lena, the lead played by Ines Høysæter Asserson, is an every-girl type of character, and Kalle, in the way of teen rom-coms, is gorgeous, romantic, and played by Mathias Storøi. As for Margrethe? Classic H.B.I.C. with a vendetta, played by Elli Rhiannon Müller Osborne. We love to hate her or we want to be her.

While in Royalteen, the main character is Lena, the real reason we’re all looking at the series right now is because of the recently-released sequel, Royalteen: Princess Margrethe. After the cliffhanger of Royalteen where Margrethe passes out, we learn that the once-untouchable Norwegian princess has a secret involving a whole lot of substance abuse. With Lena’s secrets out due to Margrethe in the first movie, in the sequel, Margrethe receives karmic payback — though, it really turns out to be a journey towards healing. We all hated Margrethe in Royalteen, but the redemption arc is so deserved, and hey, now we get more of her amazing outfits! Despite the darkness of some of the issues Royalteen deals with, it stays dramatic and binge-worthy; it’s like you can’t stop watching it once you start!

If you won’t watch for any other reason, watch Royalteen: Princess Margrethe for the soundtrack. With two songs from Girl in Red, one from Sky Ferreira, and a whole lot of booming party songs, it’s almost straight from our own Spotify playlists — it makes Royalteen almost like a sad-girl The Princess Diaries. It may not be the most critically-appraised film, or the most popular (yet), but we all need some spicy teen dramas in our life sometimes. Even better, it comes in twos!

You can watch the Royalteen series on Netflix. Let us know your favorite character, and which one deserves their own movie!
