Everything-But-Basketball Recap: All the Shenanigans That Went Down During The NBA Finals!

Written by Maryssa Rillo. Published: June 14 2019

Whether you’re a basketball fan or not, you’ve definitely heard about all the shenanigans that occured during the NBA Finals this year. It’s all over social media. A lot went down... other than basketball. From Drake trolling the Warriors players to the Beyhive sending death threats, this series was full of drama to say the least!

Last night, in Game 6, the Toronto Raptors beat the Golden State Warriors and won the NBA finals. Now that the series has come to an end, here is a recap of everything that went down!

Drake and Draymond Green

It’s an understatement to say that Drake is a Raptors fan. I mean, he is Canadian after all. The team has never been to the NBA Finals and Drake’s excitement was through the roof. So much so that he was trolling the Warriors players almost every chance he got.

Most of us just trash talk other fans when our favorite team beats theirs. Not Drake -- he takes it straight to the players themselves. After the Raptors took the W in Game 1, Drake decided to taunt Draymond Green as he was walking off the court. This resulted in a little "scuffle". Come on, it’s the Finals. It wouldn’t be an intense game without ending the night with the exchange of a few provoking words, right?

As if the taunting wasn’t enough, Drake fired shots at Green again, after the Raptors beat the Warriors in Game 4. Drake shared with his 57.8 million Instagram followers a photo of Green wearing a pink blazer and jean shorts with writing on them. There was a voice-over on the photo saying, “You’re the reason the Golden State Warriors lost the Finals.” The voice-over also poked fun at Green’s blazer. It was pretty funny, not gonna lie.

Drake and the Currys
The pettiness doesn’t stop there! If you didn’t know, Golden State star Steph Curry’s dad, Dell Curry, used to play for the Toronto Raptors. Drake saw this as an opportunity to pump up his antics. In Game 1 of the Finals, Drake trolled the former Toronto player by wearing an old, autographed Dell Curry Raptors jersey. Awkward!

Take a seat and get some popcorn, because there is more. After Toronto came up with the lead in Game 1, videos surfaced of Drake and Steph Curry talking on the sidelines. During the video, viewers can see Drake taking something off Curry’s head. Seems like a nice gesture, right? WRONG. Drake later took to Instagram and posted the video as well as a photo of the so-called piece of lint he took off Curry’s head. The caption read, “Steph Curry hair lint for sale on my eBay right now!!! username: DraymondShouldntWear23.” I think we can all agree that Drake has officially taken the crown for being the King of Pettiness.

The Beyhive Swarm Around Their Queen

Drake poking fun at the Warriors is all fun and games, but Beyoncé fans don’t play. After Game 3, a video went viral of Beyoncé and Jay-Z sitting courtside during the game. In the video, Beyoncé seemed to look annoyed (fans' assumption) when Nicole Curran, the wife of the Warriors owner, leaned over her to speak with Jay-Z. Whatever, right? Who cares? Beyoncé’s fans, AKA her Beyhive, definitely cared. They took it to another level and even sent Curran death threats for so-called “disrespecting” the singer. Curran even had to disable her Instagram account for all the harassment she received. The Beyhive definitely took the sting too far on this one. Just say "to the left, to the left" and move on.

Whew, now I need some water. All this drama, I forgot I was talking about basketball. Anyways, Drake is probably happy now that his team won. Congratulations to the Raptors for taking the title home!
