COMIC-CON@HOME RECAP: 4 New Series Streaming This Fall!

Written by Victoria Martinez. Published: July 29 2020

San Diego’s Comic-Con is a long-awaited annual event that, like many others, had to take a different turn this year. Being their first-ever virtual convention, it was interesting to see how they carried on the grand weekend.

There were so many activities for fans to participate in from the comfort of their home. To enhance the experience, Comic-Con provided badges and signs for their remote attendees (even pets got their special badges!) to print at home. I absolutely loved that they included audio clips of the announcements they usually play at the Convention Center’s halls. And if you were wondering about the exclusive merch they usually sell at the event, it was all made available online!

Fans had a huge selection of panels to tune in to during the weekend, some of these being announcements from popular streaming services. The cast and crew of upcoming series sat for a conversation on their shows. We tuned in and compiled a list of 4 new shows to watch out for this fall!

1. “Truth Seekers” (Amazon Prime)

This new 8-episode-long series is a combination of horror and comedy within a supernatural universe. “Truth Seekers” follows a team through their investigations on paranormal cases, including ghost sightings. BOO! Just kidding. Don’t get spooked; as mentioned before, there’s some humor along the way! As the investigating team documents their encounters, little do they expect to come face-to-face with something deeper.

If you’re all about paranormal activity and/or a fan of the "Cornetto" movie trilogy, add this show to your watchlist! The series stars Nick Frost (“Into the Badlands”), Simon Pegg (Mission: Impossible), Emma D'Arcy, Samson Kayo, and many more.

Premiere date: TBA

2. “Utopia” (Amazon Prime)
Also joining the Amazon fall line-up is “Utopia”. The series follows a group of comic book fans attempting to save the world after discovering that the mysterious events (that usually occur in a graphic novel) are actually happening in real life. Wildfires, pandemics, and more dangerous events are uncovered along the way.

“Utopia” is a fresh American remake of the British original series. The cast includes Rainn Wilson (“The Office”), Sasha Lane (American Honey), John Cusack (2012), Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day), and more!

Premiere date: TBA

3. “Helstrom” (Hulu)

Calling all Marvel fans! “Helstrom” (or “Hellstrom” in the comics) has found its network for the fall! Raised by a serial killer, a brother and sister track down the world’s worst individuals. The siblings have their own unique set of skills that help them along the way. This “nature vs. nurture” story (as stated by creator Paul Zbyszewski) will have you discovering Marvel Easter eggs.

The cast list features Tom Austen, Sydney Lemmon, Elizabeth Marvel (“Homeland”, “House of Cards”), Robert Wisdom (“Ballers”, “Nashville”), and more!

Premiere date: October 16

4. “Lovecraft Country” (HBO)

Teased back in June, the show's creatives offered an official trailer and a special sneak peek during Comic-Con@Home! The story follows Atticus Freeman’s journey as he travels across America searching for his missing father during the Jim Crow era. Atticus, alongside his uncle and friend Letitia, battle racist terrors and horrific monsters.

The 10 episode-long series stars Jonathan Majors (The Last Black Man in San Francisco), Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey), Courtney B. Vance (“The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story”), Michael K. Williams (“When They See Us”), and many more!

Premiere date: August 16 at 9PM

I’ll definitely be checking all of these out; which one are you looking forward to the most? Let us know!
