Broadway Smash 'Hamilton' (FINALLY) Coming to Theatres & Disney+!

Hamilton stans, come and get it!

The acclaimed Tony Award-winning smash Broadway hit about America's early history and Founding Father Alexander Hamilton is coming to a theater near you AND to Disney+ after years of waiting. Whether you're a hardcore fan or don't even know the dude, we think you'll wanna hear about Hamilton FINALLY making its big screen debut.

When it opened at the Richard Rogers Theater in 2015, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s rap musical Hamilton immediately took the world by storm. The immensely popular show detailing Founding Father Alexander Hamilton’s life has inspired viral fame among all kinds of demographics.

The kicker? Tickets are expeeeeeeensive. Like, upwards of $1,000 expensive. This isn’t your grandmother’s Broadway musical -- scoring a ticket to Hamilton is the kind of exclusive experience teens, adults, and kids alike all want.

Back in 2016, the show -- featuring the original Broadway cast -- was professionally filmed for a later release. After 4 years of waiting, its distribution home has finally been announced -- none other than the Walt Disney Company, which has a relationship with Miranda thanks to his contributions to Moana and Mary Poppins Returns. The show will have a limited theatrical run and then will be available to stream exclusively on Disney+. The rights to the show reportedly sold for a very hefty $75 million, the biggest acquisition deal ever made, according to Deadline

The acquisition isn’t just impressive from a financial standpoint. Distributing a musical as profitable and popular as Hamilton is a bold, game-changing move for both the creators of the show and for Disney. Broadway shows aren’t typically given a life on the big screen -- Rent was the first Broadway show to receive theatrical distribution, in 2008. Releasing filmed theatre shows to the public can be a risky move; retaining audience numbers while building buzz for the show and giving it a second life is an important balance, but difficult to create.

Whether you’ve seen Hamilton live, listened to the cast recordings, or have never heard of the show in your life (how???), the show’s theatrical and streaming release are bound to give it a whole new life and fanbase.

If you want to see Hamilton in a theater near you, it opens October 15, 2021. After that, you can catch it on Disney+. Don't throw away your shot to finally see this groundbreaking show!
